Thank you Christmas was good. Spent time with family and had a lovely day. Had a quick clear round this morning so I can see the carpet again and going out this afternoon to continue the fun. DH back in work today but will join us later.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Another nice family day yesterday. Might have to detox now from wine and rich food!
DH payday today. 85 pound less than expected as his company announced last week they are no longer paying the uplift he gets for shift work and weekends. He was originally due to work Xmas but at the last minute they said he was allowed to take leave (pretty sure they've done this to everyone to save on the Xmas day wages at time and a half). Gonna have to dig out the paperwork to see if we have a copy of his contract as they are playing silly somethings. They're not the best employers ssp, crappy leave etc but this is a whole new level of naughtiness. DH doesn't know if they are intending on not paying the uplift over Christmas or forever, he doesn't seem to have a full story. Either way it's wrong. And unhelpful to a budget 😡 just hope it's not a sign of financial difficulties on their part.
No big plans for today so might have to tidy the kids rooms with them as pressies all over and worried they will get damaged. Downstairs is tidy but not cleaned. Chill out pottering about day I think!Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Debts wise my remaining ones are both defaulted (2023). They were with tesco bank who have been bought out. I've not paid for about four months as the app stopped working and my standing order payments kept failing. So I gave up... It's all coincided with them being taken over. I'm currently just waiting for the new bank to write to me and not drawing attention to myself. Or maybe they will send me to a collector or loose me. Have to hold my nerve I suppose and wait to see what happens. Feels strange not to have a "plan" in place but these things move slow don't they so I'll just wait and see.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

I would wait and sit it out, they'll write to you when they want some money!
That's annoying about DH's work playing silly sausages, hope it's resolved."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Tidying, trip to the tip to recycle and chill out day today I think. Need to see what food we have left and how we can meal plan to get the best out of it. Budget lower this week due to wage issue but kids off school so at least we can just randomly do something on toast as opposed to figuring out multiple packages lunches. Don't want to waste anything but also this time of year means everything we have in will make for an interesting combination.
I read an article that told me how much more of a carbon footprint each family makes on Xmas day. Sorry I can't remember the number but it was an eye opener. It's made me notice it more this year rather than just thinking what a ridiculous mess when the paper gets ripped off then forgetting about it. We've kept some stuff for crafting and painting on but most of it is ready for a trip to the tip I'm afraidJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

I saw that article too. It's interesting. Good idea to keep wrapping paper for crafts. I've kept mine for ebay packaging.
I think not wasting a lot of food will have a big impact on reducing the carbon impact too, so having lots of use up days is a good thing!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
So I have a renewed energy about the finances. Not sure where it's come from or whether it's a hidden fear of the ssp pay we will be receiving when DH has his op but I'm gonna roll with it
I've joined the make £2025 in 2025 challenge. Not sure I'll make the total but it will spur me on the look for free/extra money on the way. When I last did it many years ago it was quite interesting to see how you can earn extra little bits if you look around enough. I have been following the grocery challenge for inspiration (I always fail when I sign up 😂) and have joined up to pay your debts off by Christmas 2025. Technically I'm not paying them at the moment but it will inspire me to become as debt neutral as possible and have some good savings ready for when they get in touch ha ha.
Happy new year to everyone for later today. I'm not sure what 2025 will bring as things are still not right at home but it will be one foot in front of the other for now.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Good luck with it all. I'm feeling more motivated too so we can cheer each other on.
