Just had this mail from Scottish Power:

Your Alternative Fuel Payment has been paid

    Hello XXX,

You've been identified by HM Government as being eligible for the Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP). The payment is part of their cost of living assistance measures, delivered to eligible customers through electricity suppliers and is aimed at helping customers who use alternative fuels such as biomass or heating oil with their energy costs this winter.

We're pleased to confirm that we've sent your one-off Alternative Fuel Payment of £200.00 as a refund to your bank today. Please allow a few working days for this credit to be shown in your bank account.

You can find out more about the scheme, as well as additional support, here.

Thanks for being a ScottishPower customer.

The Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP) is funded by HM Government. Please note we're legally required to provide personal data about your AFP to the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Find out more about how BEIS use that personal data here.

You can find out if your specific postcode is counted as having mains gas or not

    https://www.xoserve.com/media/fadn4tnc/off-gas-live-postcodes2022.xlsx?term=Off-gas

That URL has a slight typo...

    It should be: https://www.xoserve.com/media/fadn4tnc/off-gas-live-postcodes-2022.xlsx?term=Off-gas
Does anyone know if that list means all properties in the listed postcodes will get the alternative fuel payment, or is there further filtering on an individual properties data?

Further filtering - that list is the starting point, then they look at census data to see what the predominant form of heating is.  If it's electric, the postcode is excluded and alternative fuel users there will have to apply for the payment.

    For an idea, here https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/housing/articles/census2021howhomesareheatedinyourarea/2023-01-05
BUT I don't know if that level of area is the same the government looked at for heating, so no guarantees it'll match up with being on or off the list.

That seems to cover only England an Wales. Anyone know how it's being handled in Scotland?

    Google found me this https://www.mygov.scot/help-energy-bills
Any help?  Looks the same as England and Wales to me.

The postcode Excel spreadsheet linked to earlier in the thread includes ABerdeen postodes at the very beginning...

Census data from 2011.  I don't know where you'd find that, sorry.

I managed to check my local area in Scotland, a couple of weeks ago, so it is possible.  Sadly, I can't for the life of me remember where I found the info!    :/

Found it!  There are a number of ways into the 2011 census data, but this link allows you to search the results by postcode:  https://www.scotlandscensus.gov.uk/search-the-census#/explore  Central heating type is under the Household info link.  The last time I went into this, I was able to access it by a map view, under heating type, but I wasn't able to get down that particular rabbit-hole this time.

Interesting. My house was not built in 2011 so is not on that census.  I wonder how that will be handled?  I suspect a manual claim may be needed.

If they just go by the postcode, only 3.3% (one house I believe) has "gas central heating" but he is on bulk LPG as no mains gas is here.  33% on oil is the largest.

The post code list is those fully without the supply of mains gas.  Have you checked the postcode list to see if yours is on there?
