I fully accept that Heinz baked beans may not be the tastiest or cheapest. Husband has eaten them since he was a child and though he has tried other brands, he prefers Heinz.dealyboy said:

... and the winner is ... not Heinz.
beans means ... 2 -
What I don't get is the point of covering them with a sticky syrup. There are so many nice dishes that can be made from all kinds of beans, yet the nations "favourite" is almost a nursery foodstuff.MrsStepford said:

No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
I tried some 37p Asda beans this week. To lower the sugar content I spooned off some of the juice.Brie said:But does low sugar mean they're full of sweeteners instead? That's what I hate about so much food sold now.
They tasted ok, but I put health first.
I guess the tomato juice is almost as bad as the sugar, as it's just liquid.1 -
I rinsed the syrup off the 25p tin I bought and the haricots were a bit sweet, but otherwise did the job. A v easy way of adding protein to a dish for us vegetarians without having to do any prep.sevenhills said:

The sauce contributes quite a bit to the weight of the contents so you may not necessarily be getting such a price difference from a tin of haricot beans and a tin of washed baked beans.
However baked beans are a lot easier to find.3 -
Hi @GaleSF63 ...

The Heinz less sugar beanz contain sweeteners so I won't buy them. I buy OH the 200g cans now, not the 400g ones.1

I am not going to count the beans, but tinned pulses are in quite a lot of water.
Tesco haricot beans in water 235g out of a 400g tin. (54p, so the beans cost £2.30 per kg)
Tesco Stockwell 185g of beans in 420g (27p, the beans cost £1.45 a kg)
Dried pulses are the most economical. A 500g bag at Tescos is £1.35 and gives 1.5 kg of cooked beans at 90p a kilo.
And before someone quibbles at the energy costs, I use a pressure cooker saving two thirds of the gas.
