My favourite hasn't been mentioned . Newgate baked beans are Lidl own brand  . Less than £1-50 for a pack of 4 tins . They taste good . I am not too worried about salt or sugar content . A slice of toast is converted into sugar by the body anyhow !
Toasting bread lowers the carb content.
Toasting bread from frozen creates resistant starch which helps helps boost gut health and reduce insulin sensitivity

(OT - the food costs are now as worrying - Tesco online we shop for most of groceries and tin of Heinz beans close to 180p)
    1 tin £1.20 or pack of 4 for £3.99
LIDL NI 6 pack of HEINZ 3.99
The 'NI' part of Lidl NI means Northern Ireland. There's often different deals to Lidl GB. Useful for a few of us, but wanted to highlight it so people aren't disappointed if the offer isn't on in their store.

Correction to my previous - I was wrong about M&S beans being 85p.  They're 50p!!  Seems like M&S have realised that the food shop has got very competitive.

Surely you are just better off avoiding unnecessary carbs in the first place?

I lost 5 stone :D last year by following a strict low carb diet.  I used to like a quick breakfast  of beans on toast with grated cheese, yum.  I’ve given that up now :'(

Or just keeping pace with the competition, whoever that is. Aldi stopped selling their Corale beans in 4 packs last year, at least around here.
To think 10 months ago they were only 99p! I'm just glad I stocked up while they were cheap.

  • I like Lidls Newgate beans. I do love the Branston beans best though, but they are too expensive and I just add a dash of Worcestershire to the Lidls

Sod the carbs, its a cheap protein ( comparatively ) and even Mr L will eat a jacket potato with beans and cheese for his evening meal if we have had a lunch bigger then the normal sandwich

I do two Zumba classes a week and have a few meals I eat post exercise.
Jacket potato with baked beans and cheese is one of them.
Inspired by this thread, after almost forcing down a small tin of Heinz I tried half a large tin from Tesco, wow they are so much better and I actually enjoy them.

My other Heinz will be going to the foodbank and I'll be trying Lidl next.

As a teenager, I went veggie and my mother would serve me curried Heinz baked beans, frequently. I don't eat them now, but husband is keen on them.  I bought him the reduced sugar and salt ones, but full of sweeteners and I got told not to buy them anymore. If he really wants beanz, he gets the half tin triple packs when on offer at Iceland.
