I've just had a look at the soup recipe: another for me to try, I think. You mentioned you'd roasted the squash in advance but did you peel it?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thanks - I think it sounds like my thing and I might peel the BNS too, as bits in the soup would spoil it for me!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Morning all, happy Wednesday.
WFH today.
Had my usual leisurely start with my book and a coffee then completed today's Spanish challenges before doing a yoga class.
Last night I joined a live meditation class and it was a lovely summer meditation where you visualised you were on a beach, in a forest or wherever your happy summer place is. It was very relaxing until Mr SA started shouting me and the dog started playing up in the background!
It's a grey damp start to the day here but according to the forecast it's going to clear up later.
Today's exercise is the yoga already done, dog walking later this morning, a lunchtime short strength session and Zumba tonight. I also plan to do day 2 of the 7 day balance challenge. It's the same 7 balance challenges for 7 days and you're meant to compare your balance at the end of the 7 days to see how much it improves. I was surprised that my balance is a lot better than I thought. If anyone wants to give it a go here is the YT link.
It should be a NSD day today. It's payday eve so just waiting to start the usual payday money shuffle tomorrow. We have had news finally of this year's pay award, it's not great but better than nothing, it's now going to the union for approval. When we finally get it, it'll be backdated so there'll be a nice lump sum in September's pay.
I've been turning my thoughts to what I'm going to do with the regular savers money when they mature, the first of them matures next week. I need to replace the money I 'borrowed' from the EF for the vet bill and I also want to put some extra in there.
One of the pots is always used for home improvements and this year I want to have a new loft hatch and ladder so I can start clearing the loft and moving things from the under stairs cupboard into the loft ready for that cupboard to eventually become a downstairs toilet.
I'd also like to get the window in my office replaced as it's about had it. It's over 30 years since it was last replaced so I think I've had my money's worth. I'd also like to get my office redecorated.
If there's anything left after that I'd like to get the kitchen, hall, landing and stairs repainted.
I also need to put some money aside for DS's wedding in October. They still haven't come up with an idea of what they want for a present. Mr SA will need a complete new outfit as he has nothing remotely smart in his wardrobe. I'll need an outfit too. I don't plan to buy clothes that can't be worn afterwards so won't be going over the top and it's an informal wedding so no hat needed.
I'm very aware once I retire there won't be a lot of saving happening so I need to get as much done while I still can and also put some money aside for a pot to dip into should I need it once I'm no longer earning.
Tonight's dinner is another new recipe Moroccan style stuffed aubergine which will get rid of an aubergine and part jar of chickpeas lurking in the fridge.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5 -

Great thinking and planning using your wages to get big improvements done now. Would it be useful to rent a suit for Mr SA if he's unlikely to be wearing it again for the foreseeable?https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase
