@yuanzhi this is something on my list of things to do so thanks for the reminder. I am officially listed as his carer and ‘responsible person’ so if I’m there either physically or on the phone they consult me usually. But I realise it would be prudent to set up power of attorney.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

I found the .gov guide really helpful, apart from working out the signing order but you're smarter than me! Would def recommend doing both health and finances for someone with Mr SA's condition

Definitely get a POA if you can. Not many minutes after a doctor asked why mother didn't have a dementia diagnosis (because it was too much trouble for them I suspect) he told us he wasn't obliged to tell us anything about her health. I went in the next day with it. Most are alright but you get the odd one.

That's awful @badmemory, I'm sorry you had to deal with that level of rudeness, and from a so-called professional, when you should have been getting support and empathy.
Nowhere near as bad but after my Dad died and I was trying to sort out his (not large or complex!) finances, N*twest were difficult about me not having POA, despite me trying to explain to them that it's only for people who are alive3 -
I have never had a problem with peoplw not giving me information about the few relatives I had but I did have a problem with an advance directive for my mum which the hospital clainmed they didnt have so had to continue treating her after a massive stroke which was not survivable . I told them they did have it and if they needed another copy it would be with them the next day. I was called early the next day as they decided she would not see the day out and she didnt so I never had the satisfaction of giving them another copy.

I would recommend you sort out that poa SA certainly. If he loses capacity it is a nightmare to sort out his affairs. I set one up for my mum quite a few years ago for health and finances but only just activated the finances one as she is 89 and struggles with the technology needed these days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Thank you all. I did attend a session at work about POAs last year and the colleagues that delivered it were ex OPG so it was really informative. I’ve got all the information saved so need to revisit it.I’ve had a productive day. Cleaned out the fridge in my lunch break then cleaned the kitchen thoroughly after work followed by giving the patio and path a good sweep in the garden. I need to chip away at the house and garden or it becomes overwhelming. I’m going to concentrate on one room per day and try and spend at least 30 minutes on garden tasks, weather permitting.Talking of gardening I have my first mangetout come through 🥳 It’s very tiny so not ready to pick just yet.Dinner was air fried tofu with stir fried vegetables and noodles. Air frying the tofu after marinating then coating it with a light dusting of cornflour really elevated it to another level, it was delicious and really crispy. https://www.weightwatchers.com/uk/recipe/air-fryer-tofu/62c56b37f96bdd0208f24ddbCashed out £15 from Quidco and am 15p away from being able to cash out Opinium. It was also a NSD.
My new blazer from M&S arrived, the beauty box is to follow. Tried it on and I really like it, it looks smart and the material is nice. I wanted something to smarten up my jeans or wear with a dress.Mr SA is complaining of still feeling unwell and has managed to convince himself he’s going to end up back in hospital. He’s going to phone the doctor tomorrow if he still feels rough.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3 -
Pleased that you are happy with your blazer - it's a nice versatile addition to a spring/summer wardrobe (gosh I sound just like a fashion writer 😀)
Hope MrSA feels better tomorrow1 -
As Fashion Writer @Blackcats says, a blazer is so versatile, and very in for the Spring/Summer '24 season, especially paired with jeans for that 90s Calvin Klein look. Don't save it for special, swan around like you're on a catwalk, darling, mwah!
That's a productive day indeed, congrats on the mini mangetout.
I guess that's good that Mr SA is taking a bit of responsibility for his own healthcare, I hope he's not so rough he needs re-admitting but if that's what's needed then that's best, and will at least be a couple of days with a break from extra cleaning up for you2 -
Hope Mr SA is ok"If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney1
