Progress not Perfection

When we moved home a few years ago, one kitchen cupboard was already fitted with a carousel. I kept my baking tins etc in it & all my tinned food etc was in a larder cupboard. The kitchen is now being updated & the larder cupboard has been removed to make way for open shelves. I was originally going to have the carousel removed & have shelves put in the cupboard, but instead I have used the carousel to store my tinned food on the top & other bits & bobs on the bottom. It is so easy to spin it round & find what I need.

Thankfully, my DH is (slowly!) doing the work on the kitchen so I have plenty of time to keep changing my mind on how I want it!

No window, and as it's internal to the house it may end up getting too hot. Wall shelves are (mostly) reclaimed MDF (with a couple of new bits), worktop will be partly granite reclaimed from the utility room so should give me a cool surface. No units - just open space below, and I suspect I'll gradually find veg racks etc to fill it with. Floor will probably be tiled with whatever I tile the kitchen with to provide a continuous surface. But I'm doing it as cheaply as possible! It also reduces the cost of the new kitchen as I need far fewer cabinets, no full-height or wall cupboards either.

Great to-do list, you'll feel fab after getting those done. Dining room cupboard of doom becoming a pantry is very exciting 🥂

At one time I lived in a huge house, with a 2-roomed cellar, an attic with 3 rooms, a boot room with sink and shelves and a separate kitchen and …. a "butler's pantry" with bells from each of the main rooms.

It was, and its sale allowed my then husband and I to buy our first shop. The sacrifice was that we had to live with his parents for a while, but that was a great motivator to find a rented 2 bed flat PDQ then get back into a tiny house that needed everything doing! Happy days.

Interesting to read all the pantry/kitchen stories.

@satchmo1 when I was a little girl we lived in a very big old house that had a scullery with walk in fireplace, floor to ceiling windows in the sitting room (my mum was in despair about the amount of curtain material!) and a really wide sweeping staircase with a half landing big enough to have furniture on. It sounds very similar to your old house.

Not quite the relaxing start to the day I'd anticipated as it was interrupted by DD going back and forth getting ready for work, the Mr M delivery arriving, having to do a freezer shuffle as a result of the delivery then having to clear the bathroom ready for the painter.

I had another try with the 10 frozen items for £10 deal on the Mr M order. If you can remember I only received one item last time. I mentioned this to the driver who said don't worry I've checked and there's definitely ten items in there. I really should've checked it myself before I let him go as there were only nine. I'm destined not to get this order in full! I've applied for a refund for the missing item. It's a shame as it's a brilliant deal as they're all things I buy for Mr SA anyway then I get staff discount courtesy of DD so each item is less than £1 for branded items.

Anyway…

Mid-week budget check done and cc balance paid off.

The painter has done the mist coat on the newly plastered ceiling and is coming back later when that's dry to finish it off. It won't take him long so that will be the painting finally finished today apart from the woodwork I'm doing that is. We'll have to wait for him to come back before we take the dog on the park or Mr SA will have to go on his own.

I planted another bag of bulbs after work yesterday which in turn led to having to do some weeding. I also put away my summer bags/sandals and have got out the autumn bags/boots. After work today I'll plant the remaining bulbs and swap another bag of clothes over. I've already identified 3 coats to go to the charity shop so I'm going to drop them off at lunchtime along with a few other bits. I'm registered for Gift Aid with the shop and I had a letter on Monday saying they'd raised £104 from my donations.

Today's exercise plan is yoga (done), dog walking, walk to charity shop and Zumba at 6pm.

Tonight's dinner is salmon with Mexican rice and stir fried veg.

That's a great way to motivate people to donate items, by telling them how much had been raised!

That's the bathroom ceiling finished and the painter paid.

Mr SA's new scooter has been ordered. It's slightly more a month than his current one but sounds a lot more robust than the brand he usually has that breaks down frequently.

Didn't make it to the charity shop as we were late taking the dog out because of the painter being here.

Going to plant the rest of the bulbs now and swap another bag of clothes over. It's so warm at the moment it doesn't seem right to be putting summer gear away although I always keep a few things out in case of days like today, same as I keep a few long sleeved items out in summer for cooler days.

Received the refund for the missing shopping item.

Caught Mr SA rummaging around in the cupboard where I keep my wine. He claimed he was looking for biscuits! He knows I don't keep biscuits in there, they're in his treat basket. He then had the cheek to say someone had taken his chocolate biscuits when he knows DD and I don't eat them! It couldn't possibly have been him who ate them 😐I originally bought the chocolate biscuits in case the painter wanted one with his cuppa but Mr SA hid them.
