Thank youSunshine_girl2 said:I am vote counting tomorrow night , I will be glad when Friday night arrives . Look forward to hearing the bathroom is done . Have a good day.
Hope the count went well and you are managing to get some rest today.
Thank you, that's good to know and a good way of looking at it. I am trying also to remember that this is an essential part of my plans for early retirement as it will be important to have as many of the big jobs done as possible!in_need_of_direction said:I too get very possessive of savings but don’t regret a penny spent on a new bathroom 2 years ago. It helped to look at it as increasing the value of an asset.
Thank youEssexHebridean said:It is ALWAYS anxiety inducing spending big chunks of money on things, even when those things are necessary and saved for. Remember how far you've come in this wonderful MSE world we all inhabit though. No consumer debt AND in a position where you are paying up front for GETTING THE BATHROOM DONE for goodness sake! I've said it before - when we've spent so long making adjustments to get debt free. mortgage free or whatever, and then building up savings, to see the account balances no longer reflecting that is a massive jolt. Just think though - it won't be that long before you will be able to go and look at your lovely "savings" in the shape of that bathroom!
That is very true. Despite everything, it is lovely knowing that we are paying cash for this bathroom and not credit! "Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2 -

Despite being shattered, I feel so much better now that yesterday is over. It was a good day, if very long. It was very busy, with a pretty much constant stream of people, so no real time for proper breaks but it was good to be busy. I took snacky/easy to eat quickly foods with me but came back with a lot of it. I think it would have done my digestive system good to have a rest anyway.
I'm not sure I'll do it again, but it may be like childbirth and I'll forget the pain by the time the next election comes round
I don't think I'd want to do the count overnight, but if the opportunity to help with postal votes or something similar comes up I'd probably do it.
Plumber is here and cracking on with the bathroom. I'm hearing quite a bit of muttering about 'what is going on here' and 'why is that like that' which is mildly worrying, but he's mentioned before that some things looked bizarre. He doesn't seem bothered though which is good. He's mostly removing the tiles today and doing the prep work to properly start next week. He dropped off the new toilet, sink and shower the other day so it's all progressing well!
I didn't have the inclination to empty the airing cupboard this morning, but I will do that and do the declutter over the weekend. DH needs to make sure the loft is clear around the bathroom so they can move the pipes and electric. We were due to meet friends tomorrow, but they have cancelled, so in all honesty, it's a bit of a relief as it means we can get on with things. Little miss is supposed to be helping sell cakes for Brownies at a car boot sale at the weekend. I've said she can sell, but I'm not baking, so if they want a contribution it will have to be shop bought."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Happy new government! I hope that whatever everyone's political persuasion we see a bit of stability now and it would be nice to see some repair to our public services. We have a new MP here, who I hope will be better for the local community."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Glad you had a good night. Well done for getting up so soon after to look after grandson! I think ours are a couple of years away til the locals so I'll probably forget by then too (or as soon as I get paid for this one).Sunshine_girl2 said:The count was very busy as usual, got to bed at 3.45am , but a good night . I've been catching up on admin type tasks today, though haven't got through it all! I've done 12 listings, some for DH and some for the kids, so hopefully some sales there.
All the tiles have gone from the bathroom (the whole room was tiled), and the sink has been removed. It appears that previously the bathroom was dark purple (with the yellow suite). I'm actually considering maybe doing the plastered walls a similar colour having seen it. I think DH will need some persuading though
I'll have to see what I think when the new tiles are around the bath and the new toilet and sink are in. I'm not a fan of dark rooms, so I probably won't, but at least if it's just painted, it's easily changed. We have new bath taps and fittings! Again, they are so much better and a small luxury
