Katiehound said:or we just talked about 'the station' because there wasn't a bus station!! you automatically meant it was for trains!!
(or the name of the station such as I am going to Victoria or London Bridge- of course you meant the station but you didn't have to say so!!)9 -
The same where I am from in the South. The station always meant a train. Buses had stops, interchanges or garages.Where I live now, we have both a bus and a train station. Perhaps this is down to the changing nature of public transport, far fewer busses with little in the way of cross city services, hence the need for a central connection point.7

Same here it was the 'flicks' or the 'pictures' and the station meant the train and bus's had stops.A bus garage was where they started from or went back to when finished at night.
No self-respecting London kid ever went past a phone box without pressing button B in the hope of a few forgotten coppers falling out. ): ): good source of income ,always checked on a Sunday on the way to Sunday school, especially if the phone box was near to a pub, London kids were canny lads and lasses in the 1940s-50sall empty found beer bottle were returned to the 'off' for the 2d or 3d and lemonade bottle ,usually Tizer ones were worth 3d.
I was born and brought up in London and lived there for 50 odd years, and now retired and living in Kent, where I would estimate a good 50% of Londoners moved to ,well at least in my road anyway
Strange how times have changed for so many of us, Where I live now you have to go into Chatham to get a bus to anywhere ,no cross town buses at all.
Well it Tuesday, so its coffee morning day, and a quick scout around the adjoining food hall in Dobbies to see if there are any reductions , Sometimes there are quite good reductions, and 2 pint bottles of milk, or bread are usually on offer at a good price .
It's a Waitrose outlet, and a Tuesday morning milk will last me to at least Fri/Saturday without a problem, normally reduced to 39p so well worth a shufti.
I'm hoping I get a letter this week from the hospital saying when the op. will be . I told them I'm away for the first fortnight in July, so fingers crossed it will be soon after, if not before.
I'm running down my freezer at the moment, so very little food stuff to actually buy this month, just a few odds and ends so my food budget is looking good for June.
Have a good day chums, and hopefully the sun will get its hat on today and warm us all up, Very cloudy, and still quite breezy here.
Great if you have washing to go on the line.My eldest DD is doing my washing for me at the moment ,as its difficult to bend very easily with this drain in, and lifting stuff is uncomfortable and she says she's happy to do it.
I shall be getting her a nice treat when this is all over and sorted and I get back to normal again I think
Cheers chums

I’m in South West Wales and we’ve had temperatures in the low twenties for weeks now, with wall to wall sunshine. Not a drop of rain for at least the past three or possibly four weeks. The ground is very dry. Forecast says it will be even warmer by the weekend.6

Dull and cold here in Norfolk wind is really cold. It was drizzly here this morning. Seems like the West is getting all the sunshine.4

Here in Yorkshire we've had a lot of cloud that rolls in from the East coast - sometimes it burns off by midday, sometimes not. If not, it certainly makes a difference to the temperature, especially in the mornings and evenings when it's a bit chilly. On the plus side, it hasn't rained.Be kind to others and to yourself too.5

Dobbies coffee morning was good fun as we all enjoy a good natter. Then a quick wander around the Waitrose food hall and again got two litre bottle of semi skimmed milk reduced to 39p again
, and a 2 kilo pack of Maris piper spuds for 1.61 and a large wholemeal loaf for £1.01 so only spent £3.01, and got all I needed for this week from there. The bread has been portioned and wrapped and frozen. the spuds are in my veg box and the milk will more than do me until Fri or Saturday at least so I'm pleased with my bargains
I then nipped into my local butchers and got some mince ,only bought a small amount about 150gms as by the time I add some lentils, carrots and onions and some diced broccoli stalks , it will bulk it out a fair bit, and the butchers had the best beef mince on offer, and I like to use my local butchers if I can, so it only cost me £1.27, total spent today with nothing else to get this week was only £4.28.
It was only a few bits I wanted to use to help stretch stuff in my fridge out. Tomorrow I will make the mince, and use a little to stuff the red pepper that needs using up,( lunch tomorrow) and the rest I will probably make a small shepherds pie with which will also go into my freezer. I'm making extra few extra freezer meals so when I have had my op. and come home I won't have to do too much cooking for a few days.
Have a good evening chums , still blowing a hooley here today and rather overcast
