  • Another vote for home ownership. It comes with its downfalls, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.
I hadn’t realised how competitive renting had become, where I live people stump up a years rent (how!?) to make sure they are picked by the landlord and the estate agents cap it at the first 7-10 people to want a viewing and then close viewings and start the application process. I know this is probably common but I hadn’t realised. I was lucky enough to buy in 2016, 3 months prior to the brexit vote and pre covid. I’m not in any sort of informed position to comment on wether these things have made an impact on housing but they seem to have. I would struggle to buy now. Largely because I work part time now and don’t earn enough.
Re: new builds I know you are already staying clear but I recently had to have removals because of an issue at my home, hadn’t realised the bulk of their workload is insurance. They told me fire and flood and new builds are their main contracts, I asked what they meant by new builds and apparently there’s loads of subsidence cases with new builds so they have to go clear them out. No idea on the accuracy of that but they had no reason to make it up I guess :)

Thanks for the zopa tip, I need a saver with pots and the interest looks good. Just unsure if they will accept me

As someone who has recently gone through the renting process I couldn't believe how difficult it would be. We were going to see houses and landlord saying we had a chance to then seeing people offer to pay up to £200 more than the advertised rent for preferential treatment and one landlord turned us down as the other person agreed to pay 6 months upfront (despite this not even been discussed) it is crazy.

My money jars are all set up! I’m going to use gaffer tape to seal them properly soon as I know I’ll be tempted!

So, I’ve been thinking. The current phone I use now is an iPhone 13 Pro Max and I have an old Huawei P30 Pro which a cracked screen. I’m tempted to sell the iPhone on eBay as they’re going for £700+ at the moment and my old phone is way better than this iPhone I currently have!

Yep and it will cost around £100 but I’ve just charged the old phone and it doesn’t really bother me too much!

We also went to Oakland furniture clearance and seen some bed side tables but we didn’t get them but I’m hoping to get them after work, these are the ones; but instore they’re £30 each!!
