That's brilliant news about the diabetes! Well done"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5

So, momentous decision...I am going to move my 5k emergency fund out of PBs. Having re-read what Martin has to say about average returns, it's actually losing money right now. I was also listening to Woman's Hour and the 'lucky girl' debate. Now while I do consider myself fortunate, that doesn't mean that I don't have to think and take responsibility...magical thinking was a huge part of what got me into trouble in the first place. While waiting for the elusive million-pound payout, the buying power of 5k will be whittled away at terrifying speed. Another (and I think final) step away from the 'but I deserve it' mentality. Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx12

I have never been what you would call lucky but on the other hand I am not unlucky either. Even when bad things happen, as they must, they never turn out as bad as they could have been. For example one January we got our redundancy notices for July unless business significantly improved. Well business didn't improve & it was looking like trying to find a job in my late 50s. Round here at that time that would have taken a lot of luck. Then in May big boss turns up with a massive bunch of flowers each for the 2 of us. Redundancy cancelled because a manager at HQ had decided to retire early & there were parts of her job (the important bits) we were the only ones that knew how to do. So no redundacy but a couple of years later a 4 day week.My PBs are working out at the % they say is overall so I'll live with that for now - but I have a lot!7

Interest rates have increased on many accounts now so I think moving your EF out of PB is a good call. Check out Yorkshire BS as they have some good accounts at the moment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
