Fantastic legacy even if the original event was traumatic.
Glad that DD should make a pretty full recovery. Sounds like a very difficult time for you all.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

So emergency fund looking good at £8,300+. Still under pressure in day job and voluntary work but I am reminding myself that this is a phase, not my life for ever and have achieved a few wins in getting stuff off to-do lists. Exercising every day and sleeping like a log, so much to be grateful for. I'm seeing nurse on Tues for blood-sugar results but the last few times I've taken my own reading, it's been normal so hoping for a good result. I have bought a couple of coats from a charity shop and have repaired a few things. A pile is being created of Things that Need a Professional Seamstress. Nearest small city has one who will repair zips for £6! Now I'm going round all my various mending stashes and looking for one or two: I think whatever can't be fixed will have to go as there's just no point. Hope this brain dump isn't too boring; love to all Humdinger xx8

Morning @Humdinger1,
I was just thinking about you this morning & wondering how things were going.
That is a nice chunky emergency fund. Don't we always feel better knowing these things are in place?
Zip replacement for £6 sounds good to me..I've only ever had a professional zip replacement once - it was on a boot & it was £18 even about 15+ years ago.
Clearing out is so satisfying.

Well done on the emergency fund, that's a good amount.
Hope the appointment with the nurse goes well.
If you've got straightforward repairs that you can't face doing yourself, it might be worth looking to see if you've got a repair cafe near you. Volunteers will fix things for free (but ideally a small donation is nice to keep the repair cafe going). They are brilliant and often will do textiles and a wide range of items."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". So sorry to hear how you lost your friend but I am sure she is happy to have left you money to make your life easier and happierDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Was just thinking about you so popped over to your thread to check in with you. I too am creating a pile for the professional to deal with
i have a high viz coat that has had the zip replaced - 10 or more years later it is still going strong (used for dog walking and winter riding).
The emergency fund is a good solid start - do you have a goal for it?Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5
