Glad you're not feeling too bad, even though you had a bad night. I can sympathise with the sitting up to sleep thing. When I broke my shoulder I was told I had to sit up to sleep for 6 weeks! It was a nightmare. I'm sure your swelling will go down soon. You are very brave to have had it done, especially as it sounds like something you chose to do, rather than something that had to be done. Have a good rest.Making the debt go down and savings go up

@Sun_Addict & @Makingabobor2 - Thanks. I've gone downhill this afternoon. Talking defo makes it worse, so Mr F is in for a rare quiet night.
Yes, I did choose to have surgery. What happened was that about 12 years ago, I had to have a tooth removed because of an infection which just wouldn't settle & was agony. I didn't mind a one-molar gap, but at the beginning of last year, the same thing happened with the neighbouring tooth & it too was extracted as I couldn't bear the pain any longer. That left a much bigger than ideal gap. My NHS dentist said too big a span for successful bridgework & so that left me the options of a small denture or implants, which are only available privately. So knowing that I still had a last bit of my inheritance money to allocate, (leftover from the house renovations), I put it into the Dentist/Optician Pot & asked for a referral. The work should have been finished by now, but fell behind because of an error at the conebeam scan place, my illness back in Spring & having to prioritise all the subsequent medical appointments & tests.
But I am grateful I didn't need to borrow the money or dip into our Emergency Fund. And it's defo a reminder that dipping into Savings Pots for unintended purchases would only end up backfiring on us when we then end up needing something costly like my current dental work. It's an eye-watering bill.....I still have the final stage of work (the porcelain crowns) to pay for.
Just very relieved the surgery has not resulted in a debt, as we are now both very debt-averse indeed.

Glad that the main work is over and done with, and paid for. Time to recover now.5

@Blackcats & @Chrystal - Thank-you. Yes, I must be patient & let it heal up. Very sore & swollen & I've only had two!! How on earth do these people cope who go abroad for a cheaper full mouth of implants?! They must be made of stronger stuff than me, that's all I can say. Was complaining to Mr F a little while ago that I am still terribly sore & he very rightly reminded me that the surgery was only yesterday. I need to have a word with myself.

I hope the pain and swelling lessens soon and you get a bit more sleep tonight.5

When I first had my crown done many years ago the tooth was too badly damaged to be filed down so I had to have a gold pin and post inserted into my jaw bone. The day after I had it done my face swelled beyond recognition and my mum screamed when I came downstairs. I was in absolute agony and ended up on antibiotics as it became infected. How did my tooth get damaged - I threw a hairbrush at the mirror when my hair wasn’t going right, it bounced off the mirror and hit me in the mouth breaking my front tooth. I was a teenager at the time by the way.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)8

Aw Foxgloves, you poor thing! You're right about the whole mouth thing though, I just can't imagine. I know someone on another forum who did it, many years ago, I believe about £3k for the whole mouth including flights and hotel . He was very pleased with the result, but I'm with you, I can't imagine having them all done at once (although maybe once you get to a certain point it doesn't hurt any *more*??) Anyway, I certainly hope things calm down and you are right as rain again soon x7

You are making me so glad that I was told my jaw wasn't suitable.
