maman said:All welcome here @doingitanyway.😊 It is hard when others are drinking around you. I think they take it as personal criticism. You either need to give your genuine reasons (mine is definitely empty calories) or, if it's easier, an excuse. Good luck. 😊
2/10 AFDs please@cathybird
Thank you @maman That is exactly it. I think it is perceived as a slight. I feel guilty and antisocial somehow. It is awkward as they are doing me a huge favour by having me here, so I hate the thought of being a rubbish house guest they can't share a glass or two of wine with...I feel so good when drinking isn't a daily habit. My plan is to say I am doing difficult project work so can only handle weekend drinking. That should give me 20 AF days a month
Starting off with 1 AF day for today please cathybirdIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

2/25 please cathybird. Thank you. X
Honeybear how nice to hear from you. Congratulations on your nine years of sobriety 👏. I wasn't here when you were posting regularly but I quite often read earlier Giving Up/Cutting Down threads. I see all the names and often wonder where they are and how they are doing. There are a few still here but in the main people seem to just stop posting and I think how nice it would be to know if they achieved their goal. It is so good to hear from an old alumni and of your success. X
Welcome back doingitanyway. I too share a home with a drinker (in my case my husband) and I agree it often isn't easy. But if they care about you and you about them then it is the time you spend together not whether one or both of you is holding a glass of wine that matters and is enjoyable. Please don't feel guilty or antisocial I'm sure your friend wouldn't want you to do so.5 -

I know I'm rubbish at keeping up...although I always lurk...
I would like to claim 21 AF days for August.
I had a small glass of wine yesterday.
I live with a drinker but whenever I go away I go AF and look forward to it. My housemate is away until Thursday so easier to begin AF.
If you accept me back again, thank you.7 -
satchmo1 said:I failed miserably in July, and was so ashamed I stayed off this thread - bad idea, as this thread keeps me accountable and therefore makes me at least hesitate before drinking.
Anyhow, I'm not letting July taint August, so I'll set a target of 20 please, @cathybird8 -

Marahouti, I have to thank you for recommending alcohol-free gin the other month, I have tried some and it's really nice! Think I will make it a fixture in the summer from now on because I used to have g&t's quite a lot on long sunny evenings (not that we seem to be getting many of those this summer). Did you have a particular one that you liked? x6

Starting off the month, I am glad to say - 1/9 please @cathybird - especially love the targets this month!

I tried Gordon's alcohol free gin in a bar @cathybird (thought it more mse to sample it before buying a bottle) and it really does taste like gin. 😋5
