Delurking to say know that feeling well of putting things and others first, but we need the old adage of put on your air mask first before helping others as we need to be at our best for others or things to happen, sending hugs its hard and also I think the thinking of doing things is a lot harder than what it actually is.  Have you seen the oat summertime thread on the boards, exactly this, may help as shows so many of us in the same position x

Aren’t we all so absurd to value ourselves so little? I know that I would happily spend to relieve pain or discomfort for my dog but will live with it for myself thereby denying those around me, my best self.  List out the various things you could benefit for then start working through maybe scoring their effectiveness so that if you can’t afford all, you can prioritise what’s best for you.

Thank you both, you’re so right! I did willingly and happily spend an absolute fortune on additional therapies and treatments for my lovely dog, so that he would be pain free and comfortable. I do the same with all of my pets, and yet it’s so hard to apply that to myself.

There shouldn’t be much difference in spending £50 for a laser session for my pup, and £50 for a massage for myself, if I’m able to afford them; and yet there is, somehow!

Anyway, I’ve accidentally booked myself 2 massages - 1 for this afternoon as triage, and 1 for next week with another practitioner who I’m hoping may become a regular provider.

It is very hard to book a service locally, it seems. Very few places support online bookings, and those that do are booked months in advance. Everywhere else is telephone booking, and the phones aren’t answered - presumably as they’re with clients who have booked their services - and so I ended up leaving a dozen messages to try and establish availability with providers. Bloody nightmare, and seems shortsighted on their part.

I’ve left about half a dozen messages for podiatry clinics, and hoping to hear back soon. Will look at dentists next.

Got a call back from one of the podiatrists I phoned, and I’m booked in next Wednesday.

Dentist also booked - I’ve got a new patient assessment in early August. The clinic comes recommended by my friend, which is good. Their website is simple and well laid out, and clearly states all of their pricing - most other clinics I looked at were full of stock images, waffling text, and not a price to be seen!

I’m glad I posted here to give myself the kick up the bum necessary to get these things sorted out. It’s all been weighing on my mind, and I’m sure it’s been contributing to why I’ve not slept well recently.

Off to my 1st sports massage appointment at 3pm, then back home to do 1 more hour of work before my partner comes over.

Oh, in nice news - my log cabin quilt is coming together! I got all of the strips cut , and I’m working on putting the blocks together. I’ve done 44 so far, and need 132 in total, so still a fair way to go. It’s looking cute though, I’ve never made a whole quilt just for myself before, so it feels a bit luxurious!

Feeling a little tender after yesterday’s massage, but it’s the good kind of sore. Thinking I might cancel the 2nd one I booked for next week - I’ve given myself The Fear over how much I’ll be spending at the dentist & podiatrist as well. Baby steps!

I did order the paint for the house though. Went back and forth over the colours, but have settled on pure white for the walls, and then black for the sills and bottom trim to match the guttering and soffits & fascias. Will do the UPVC red to match the front door, later down the line. My partner will do the up-the-ladder bits, and I’ll cut in and roll the bottom bits - bonus of being in a bungalow is that it’s not *that* high!

With having a long weekend off, I’m going to buy food in this afternoon and my partner will bring the fire pit over, with the plan to just not leave home for a few days. The sun should be shining, looking forward to it.

Now start working on that bed. If you are getting stuck with things it is time to move it along and get something new. I realized I have to do that this summer as I remember going with my mother to buy my mattress - in 1963! It was a very good mattress but I need a new one soon. With both need to get on with it.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been struggling recently. If your bed has springs sticking through I would definitely prioritise getting a new, decent mattress. A decent mattress will help you sleep but if your body is better supported in the night it should reduce the aches and pains you’re feeling during the day. Also re your hyper mobility and associated issues it might be worth booking a physio session. They could assess your gait and suggest any treatment needed plus recommend exercises to do outside of the session.

I know you spent a lot of money looking after your pets to ensure their quality of life was as good as it could be. I think you need to do the same for yourself as being in pain and discomfort is very debilitating. It’s good that you’ve recognised that you haven’t been prioritising your own health and wellbeing and are doing something about it. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
