Brighton stores have them, but different stories from each. One said £24.99 today and 19.99 tomorrow as sale starting, the other had 3 in stock at £19.98 although the guy had to go and check the price. He just starred at the till when it scanned at 19.98!
Comes with a full years guarantee so can't go wrong really.
My son will be over the moon as he really wanted to play halo but has an old PS2.
Any tips on where to find a cheap selection of games in the south?

Sorry to get back to the topic of surfing the net with the mediacentre mod - If I go to these lengths and manage to get a USB keyboar dand mouse to work with it, is the surfing pic quality any good - I know that media files like Divx, etc will look good on a TV, but in my limited experience, surfing the internet through a PC TV-Out looks really bad compared to a monitor, so are there any screenshots of the type of quality of websufing I can do on the TV ?

    Thanks is advance

Browsing the web on a regular TV via any method (XBOX, STB, dedicated internet box thingy etc) is generally pretty poor.
If it's your only option it will do, but I wouldn't advise it.
If you have a decent LCD and buy a component or VGA cable the resolution will be a lot more usable but still, the XBOX browser is only an add-on in XBMC and is very basic.
  • i have a 360 can that be a media centre too ?

Hi there, it can indeed but to "unleash" most of it you need either Vista (with media centre in premium or ultimate flavours) or XP Media Centre to get the best out of it. You can also stream music etc via Windows Media Player or via a plugged in hard disk/thumb drive. Its only really official Microsoft supported until the 360 is fully "unlocked" shall we say, when that day comes it will be great to see XMBC move over to it.

Personally I think XBMC for the original Xbox as is the subject of this thread is leaps and bounds above the 360s media functionality. Its just so flexible, you can even create your own applications using script language too.
Only downside is that is not quite powerful enough to do full HD (720p) video playback without some stuttering I find. With the component cables and running at 480p though I find it about the ultimate media playback tool you could wish for (at that resolution), plays anything you want to chuck its way with no bother at all. Can play allsorts from its local hard disk (you can transfer stuff to it via ftp as discussed), from a network shared folder on a pc, from the internet (youtube, apple trailers site, used to do TV Links which was awesome until the site was shutdown). You can also get RSS feeds into it for your news, it gets the weather reports, communicates with Itunes, web based radio, online comics, runs games emulators (very well I may add too).
In case you can't guess, I am a big fan LOL. For £20 this is a no brainer IMO

    Ummm no...

But the 360 can now play Divx etc either streamed from a PC or from a CD/DVD etc.
Not quite as good as XBMC but it's slowly improving.
  • The £19.99 price only refers to 1 specific version of the XBox. There have been several variations of the console over the years. The £19.99 is very obscure and unlikely to be in ANY stores.

Also, the original XBox will ONLY play DVD's when the remote control receiver is plugged into one of the controller ports. Microsoft originally said this was due to the price of the console not including the licence to play DVD videos. The £19.99 cost of the remote included the 'licence'.
  • Just called Bristol Cribbs Causeway store and they have loads of Xbox's. Got one put aside for me to collect tomorrow morning. Was told they are now £19.98 as they are in their "January Sale" so I guess some stores may have not realised their sale has started.

I only had one controller but there was a copy of Grand Theft Auto left inside the console. :j
