Brie said:My mom didn't have anything practical in coloured glass but when she was working as an antique dealer she collected a lot of electrical insulators. These were the bits at the top of the electricity wires towers that protected the wood of the tower from the heat generated in the wires. Companies started replacing these in the 60s for something more modern so the chaps (invariable at that time) who would be doing the work would drop the glass insulators to the ground 30 below resulting in a lot of them being smashed and the debris just left in the ditches at the side of the road. Thing that interested people though is that depending on the quality of the glass, length of time in use etc the glass could change from clear to various shades blue to purple or yellow to copper. So many, like mom, would have an array of these on shelves in a window to show of the mix of colours.

Well I must correct myself - mom did collect amber daisy and button glass items. Again very popular in the 60s to the point they became very valuable but that now means there's a lot of duplicate/imitation pieces around which has knocked out the market. She had one I always thought very odd - a glass shoe meant to hold matches and the bottom of it was a rough surface to spark the match.

Sorry - nothing to do with actually charity shopping - it's just you've sent me down memory lane.....
Woo hoo, finally made it to the Bedale booty, (@Cherryfudge), and what a glorious morning it was in the sunshine. Came away with a pair of b/n Reebock trainers, (£10), and a load of kid mohair yarn for £9.50, (just priced it online @ £128’s worth!). Also got a pair of b/n binoculars, (unknown brand but suit my vision) for £5.
Couple off days back, on a trip to Otley, in the 99p shop, (St Gemma’s Hospice), I found a b/n Country Casuals jersey top in purple and a fab Jaegar sleeveless white cotton shirt,9 -
Well I never made it to The Cornerstone today...but I had major chaz-success in Rayleigh and picked up the following 2 beauties in Rochford on the return journey:The pics do neither justice! No man is worth crawling on this earth.

What lovely things people are finding! @Miró, today was the day we decided not to go to Bedale! DH has had a busy week and needed a bit of downtime so we just went to the Woodfield one at Thirsk this afternoon.
Lovely and hot and sunny, and the queue of cars was daunting. We parked by the auction and walked in.
We spent about a fiver each: DH got an antique paperweight, I got a variety of things: two lovely little garments (one Monsoon) for our granddaughter at 50p each, a box of 19 biscuit cutters for 50p, a magazine file for 50p, a pink pashmina for £1, a pink French Connection jumper also £1 and a blue jumper 50p. It was £1 each to get in which I think is fair enough.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Cherryfudge said:Those make a lovely display, @kboss2010. My Mum loved coloured glass and had collections in red, green and blue. Sadly we didn't have room for most of it so had to donate a lot, but that way at least it can go to other devotees.Brie said:My mom didn't have anything practical in coloured glass but when she was working as an antique dealer she collected a lot of electrical insulators. Sorry - nothing to do with actually charity shopping - it's just you've sent me down memory lane.....Cherryfudge, I bet I would have had some good charity shop visits with your mum!Brie - That’s so interesting, I love vintage pieces. I love people’s anecdotes on here.No luck with the vintage glass today (or the small
golf bag my OH requested!) but I did get some bargains clothes-wise. Somebody Cares had 50% off all clothes and shoes today.
A yellow flowery Oliver Bonas top which I’m guessing would have been about £55 new based on their current ranges and a yellow Next cotton mesh top for £6 & £1 respectively.
Also found a red top (I have the same top in a 3/4 sleeve in jade green) that’s apparently £50 new for £1.75 and a 100% cotton patterned red/grey top from a brand I don’t know (The Shop?) for £1.50.
I also got a pair of bnwt Markies beach trousers for £4 (£18 new)“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. A profitable day in the charity shops today. I’ve been looking for a narrow-ish set of dresser style shelves for the kitchen. Today was my lucky day! They need some love but for £20 I’m happy
Then whilst trawling another shop I found for £3 a print onto board of some type of the Shambles in York. I do have a couple of ghost figures bought from a shop in the Shambles so, at some point in the future I shall be creating a scene with them. The hessian mount and the frame won’t be involved in the final creation!✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

That's interesting Rosa, I love the pretty stuff there. Not so much the clothes. I also find presents aplenty among the toiletries and housewares. May I ask why you're not keen? I hasten to add I'm not looking for an argument but quite often I'm not aware of some issue or another.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
