I'm nowhere near Northallerton but could meet you all there.....
Boot sale on Sunday netted a CK travel wallet in red heart design for £2 and a F&M musical biscuit tin for 50p both to be Bay of E'd for my charity fundraising. That's all I spent apart from the £2 to park.Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings8 -

N'ton's about an hour north of Leeds... but is also an old stagecoach town (the square covered passages between some of the buildings were reputedly coaching entrances - so if there's a bus coming south, it can pick up from here, can't it? Then the north bus and the south bus will meet outside Otley 20p shop. Sorted.
I nearly got into the shop that I thought had shut down, this morning. Just too many people to negotiate the space with a pram. Has anyone bought anything today?

I haven't bought anything in a long while tbh, not even books! I've popped into a few cs's but of the few bits I could've lifted, I look at the price tag and think "I'm not paying that"
Speaking of the bus. I looked on my phone map thing and Otley is 70 miles from me. When I click "Public Transport" it tells me it'll take 3 hours and be a bunch of changes and swoppings about. And they wonder why people won't give up their cars...
Edit There already are coaches running round the country - National Express! So I've just had a go on their website. To get into Leeds would take me just shy of 5 hours, with 1 change. That'll be a no then.I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.6 -

I had a hearing test on London Road (Leigh) today and it was near a few charity shops. I got a Tu denim dress and a blue box for £7.50 from The Samaritan shop. The blue box was a nice colour and I put my necklaces in it when I got home. It used to be a cigar box, I think, it has Frank Muller Geneve on it.
I also got a furry greige coloured cushion from The Cornerstone for £1 walking back. It will good for snuggling in cold weather.
Oh, I just googled and it is a watch box, not a cigar box.

I’m on the hunt for coloured glass - bowls, plant pots, saucers, vases, trays etc. in block colours so I can make shelves of rainbows from assorted pieces to put my plants in/on.So far I’ve had some real bargains and some really pretty cut glass pieces. My favourites are a small yellow jug with a dark blue plant saucer and a leaf-shaped fruit bowl that graduates from red to orange to yellow.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Those make a lovely display, @kboss2010. My Mum loved coloured glass and had collections in red, green and blue. Sadly we didn't have room for most of it so had to donate a lot, but that way at least it can go to other devotees.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

My mom didn't have anything practical in coloured glass but when she was working as an antique dealer she collected a lot of electrical insulators. These were the bits at the top of the electricity wires towers that protected the wood of the tower from the heat generated in the wires. Companies started replacing these in the 60s for something more modern so the chaps (invariable at that time) who would be doing the work would drop the glass insulators to the ground 30 below resulting in a lot of them being smashed and the debris just left in the ditches at the side of the road. Thing that interested people though is that depending on the quality of the glass, length of time in use etc the glass could change from clear to various shades blue to purple or yellow to copper. So many, like mom, would have an array of these on shelves in a window to show of the mix of colours.

Well I must correct myself - mom did collect amber daisy and button glass items. Again very popular in the 60s to the point they became very valuable but that now means there's a lot of duplicate/imitation pieces around which has knocked out the market. She had one I always thought very odd - a glass shoe meant to hold matches and the bottom of it was a rough surface to spark the match.

Sorry - nothing to do with actually charity shopping - it's just you've sent me down memory lane.....
