You are right about it being busy - apparently one of the racecourse car boots was on so the sellers moved over to Bedale. We managed to park nearby, in a very narrow space on the High Street, which was heaving!
I saw the yarn stall but my yarn mojo has turned off for some reason. I have a couple of projects that need attention and once I'm back in the swing of things it might start again (so perhaps I'd better not even look at them, because I do not need more yarn).
I'm sure car boot prices have come down this year. Everything I bought was either £1 or 50p, apart from one item where neither the seller nor I had enough change so she let me have it for 30p.
DSiL got golf balls and some garden tools - looked like really solid tools and the set cost him £25 which was about what he'd have paid for one item new. DH got a painting for £25 but he researches and sells on as a hobby so it's not necessarily a cost in the long term. Neither of them had enough money so they borrowed off me and DH went to the till twice! So much for a cheap morning out!
I was tempted to an ice cream but resisted.
My bargains:
Child's dressing gown for DGD 30p (and it's like new).
Winter slippers for me 50p
New Look shirt for me £1
fridge jug 50p
children's book 50p
pint glass 50p
Bake Off cookie cutters £1I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@DfV sorry I didn’t respond earlier - I wasn’t quite who you were referring to and didn’t want to put my foot in it! As Cherryfudge said it must be so hard but glad to hear you are feeling strong enough to tackle things. I hate the thought of seeing my own things appearing locally so it must be doubly+ hard to see a loved ones things.Best wishes

I like the gold pin idea btw, I think I am going to start doing it. Will probably bump into @Wednesday2000 one of these days! Thought of you last Sunday when I was in Leigh to collect some furniture - I didn't realise there was a Mencap there (the one near me closed a few weeks ago), nor that the Broadway chazzers would be open. Of course I could not find a spot to park so continued driving and consoled myself by stopping off at the Harp opposite the park instead. Nothing there for me but it was still nice to browseNo man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.7 -
If you come on holiday you look for Winners (our TKM) and we have Home Sense. Winners can be hit or miss for clothes I've found Jones New York there (I love their stuff, made for mature women's bodies and stylish). I found some M&S cardigans and blouses there last year. Recently, there's been a lot of Sephora own brand cosmetics and stuff usually seen in Duty Frees. The TV shopping channel brands often wind up there as well.
Whoever called it a umble sale was right.5 -
Washing and donating clothes is a gut-wrenching task @DigForVictory, I feel for you.
When father died a few years ago there, I washed and folded all his stuff and paired his shoes, and put it all in the big Sally Army clothes bin in the next town over's car park. I'd have been broken twice to see someone walking round in his clothes.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.9
