I would totally endorse what people have said on this thread about Penrith we had a little trip there this week and there are loads of lovely charity shops. We had to change trains in Carlisle so did a CS trawl there - also really good.
My haul:
M and S Sophia high waist, straight leg jeans £2. I looked on M and S to see how much they retailed nee and lots of people were ranting about M and S no longer doing them.
A black jersey scoop neck long sleeve top £3 no label. Both jeans and top staples for me.
DH bought an oil painting of flowers for £5 and a book about a cyclist for £2.
He also bought me some silver (?) earrings which are little spoons for £2.
And not CS but I bought another Booths pun tote bag as well. We don’t have Booths in the NE 🙁6 -

Incidentally, Bedale car boot sale is on this morning and Thirsk (Woodfield is on this afternoon (with cautions about wet grass) and I've just been paid...
We made it to Bedale. Cloud obscured everything beyond a mile or so away! DH found a remote control to replace a damaged one, and I bought a mug (£1 for M&S bone china) and a Royal Albert cup and saucer (£10). This latter wasn't something I'd ever have chosen for myself but somehow I wanted it because I have another of the series inherited from my Mum. I looked on Ebay and others in the series are £15 upwards so I think I did quite well, apart from now wanting the other 10...
I don't think the weather helped but a lot of sellers put plastic over clothes rails etc: a case of keeping dry and carrying on.
I think someone is getting crowned next week so I'm expecting another break in the car boots.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I nipped into the last chance saloon cos yesterday and books are 5-£1. It was mental busy! Is there a website paying good money for books that I don’t know about…? Anyway people were lifting piles of books without checking what they were so I lifted 5 based on their covers. This is one of them.Turns out it’s a picture book, not a word in it. The quality of the drawings is amazing, possibly the most beautiful sketches I’ve seen. It’s about the father of a family who goes abroad to find work, and how difficult and confusing it is when you don’t know the culture or speak the language.Beautifully drawn, perfectly expressed. I’m not a soppy sort but it actually made me quite emotional
So ignore your granny, folks. Judge books by covers!I had a hen who could count her own eggs - she was a mathemachicken.10 -

You're right, @YoungBlueEyes - beautiful book. Must have been a real labour of love!

Ah thanks Rosa. Selling your books is not in my vocab ha haa!
Labour of love is just right. I looked up the author and it's his family's story. They're from Hong Kong and his father came to Europe looking for work.

It was a truly beautiful spring day yesterday, so after having a coffee out I set off on a walk, taking in a couple of chazzers en-route.
- Chaz 1: a light summer jacket for £1, a Wallis linen summer blouse for £3, a chunky knit for £3, and 2 books I don't need for £1.
- Chaz 2 (directly opposite Chaz 1): a smart winter knit and 2 pairs of jeans for £1 each, and 4 books I don't need for £1

Went out to the shops with the OH yesterday. It was supposed to be food shopping with a detour to the book shop for a Rough Guide we need for a future trip. But we ended up parking some way from the deli and passed several CS en route and popped into a couple. No scarves of interest. (thank goodness - as you know I don't need more, not that that would stop any of us!) OH stopped and ummed and ahhed over some cutlery and a full set of china - not that we need any more of those either!! The cutlery wasn't anything much in my opinion - £10 for a set of 6 (non)bone knives. Nice but not special. The china was lovely Royal something starting with a P (can't locate whatever it was on fleabay). But £60. And with some notable things missing like larger bowls. An absolutely drop dead coffee pot though about 14 inches high. I suspect the OH is one of the few people in the world that would ever use such a thing these days. (present company excluded)
OOPS! No! It was Wedgewood!!
