Well, it's a matter for debate: I'm not entirely convinced Kierkegaard disproved conclusively those mis-century theorists who argue for the transformation, under sufficient pressure of coat hangers, odd shoes or similar, of single socks into lidless Tupperware boxes. Existentialists' Hose does, however, raise intriguing possibilities for lost keys, which have never been associated with the Tupperware phenomenon. I think further investigation is needed as to whether keys really do turn into loose change, because the inter-dimensional movement favours the transformation of matter into spheres, but the black hole effect inevitably leads to a degree of flattening, particularly if keys escape through pocket lining.Brie said:@Cherryfudge
I don't think you've got the science quite right on this. My understanding is that fundamental building blocks of matter cannot be "magicked" up out of nothing. So the matter that makes up the excessive and expanding clothing hoard must exist somewhere.
There's a well known phenomenon known as the Existenziell Schlauch first described by, I think, Kierkegaard. Sometimes referred to as Existentialists Hose it suggests that matter moves from this dimension into another one and then bounces back often seeking as it does so to reform itself in dark places. A wardrobe is the perfect place for this reformation. And it explains perfectly where all those single lost socks go.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

So who do I need to read (and in what language, recommended translation) on "I put six black school socks into the wash & on completion I retrieve either 5 or 7 socks all in different hues of grey"?7

If you can get an answer to that DfV you'll be a squillionairre!

There used to be a picture library and we could enjoy a print of some lovely paintings, changing them every month or so.
I found lovely print of a Lake District scene signed Peter Symonds, at the hospice shop for £10 yesterday. I have a small collection now to swap according to the seasons. The cheapest was 75p from a church fair. Some can go back to be sold again.

I'm know there's something in one of the eastern philosophies about this. Someone referred to it once buy as it's in Urdu and not been translated into any western languages I didn't make a note of the title.DigForVictory said:So who do I need to read (and in what language, recommended translation) on "I put six black school socks into the wash & on completion I retrieve either 5 or 7 socks all in different hues of grey"?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
