A couple of years ago I was a mad Converse addict and I have about 12 pairs - now I can't wear them due to plantar fasciitis, as they have very little arch support. I will be offering first pick to my DiL and then my niece before what's left go to the chazzer.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Thanks for that about the arch support. Converse are now off my lookout list. Any thing similar that would act as a replacement? Keep safe everyone,4

Just this last week I finished a big sort out of all my clothes with items surplus to requirements donated to various chazzza shops. Now I have three crates full of coat hangers but still my wardrobes and shelves are rammed! How can this be????? Do clothes multiply on the quiet to fill the available space???5

It works on the same principle as any clearing out - daylight activates the dormant growth hormones in all things stored, and they expand so they can't fit back in. The hormone is impeded by the human gaze but this makes no difference because the expansion stores energy and they then multiply faster when your back is turned.
You can see the same principle at work in domestic freezers, but the extremes of cold do slow the latent growth quite a bit.
But yes, I'm inclined to agree they must multiply as well, because how else do we account for the things we don't remember getting? I think the probable explanation is to do with perpetuation of the species: not all items fit back in, and it's the ones left out that breed then go to seek new cupboard space.
Quite scary really.

I don't think you've got the science quite right on this. My understanding is that fundamental building blocks of matter cannot be "magicked" up out of nothing. So the matter that makes up the excessive and expanding clothing hoard must exist somewhere.
There's a well known phenomenon known as the Existenziell Schlauch first described by, I think, Kierkegaard. Sometimes referred to as Existentialists Hose it suggests that matter moves from this dimension into another one and then bounces back often seeking as it does so to reform itself in dark places. A wardrobe is the perfect place for this reformation. And it explains perfectly where all those single lost socks go.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Thanks, Floss, yes, you are right about the cost. I’ve looked them up and the flats and trainers look interesting and the sale prices are better., so I’m going to look out for them in CS or even when I’m next in a big town I’ll check them out.4

@florianatwobob, I’m now off to research Adidas gazelles. I rather like the idea of gazelles on my old feet. Actually , here at the Brit- run CS new footwear is quite common. I suspect that a lot of us Brits buy stuff when on UK visits , buy things in a rush and then go off them when back in France.4
