The weather got in the way of the first car boot so we had a wander round Thirsk instead. I bought two books and a tiny veteran car (this last for the dolls' house where it looks like a toys' toy). The car was off the 50p table: I don't remember the name of the shop. The books were from BHF: a funny one as a gift (£2) and an old (1940s?) one on knitting (£2.50). Thirsk chazzers seem to have some good vintage books on a consistent basis. I was tempted by an M&S linen shirt but it was a bit big and I don't need it so its there waiting for some lucky person.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Cherryfudge Shame about the car boot last week. Hope it goes ahead this next Saturday as I might be able to make it this time. (My iphone always changes your name to Cheeryfudge, dunno why!)Today's bargains...... a 4ply cashmere sweater in a bluey purple with a turtle neck and cable front, £10, as new and a size too big but I like the slightly baggy look with jeans. Pic shows it in another colour. Never had 4ply cashmere before, it's normally 2ply and I nearly left it as it was soooo soft and sooo thick I thought it must be man made fibre. A quick check on The Cashmere Centre website revealed it's provenance and also the normal retail price of £209! So I snatched it up, (but not after a thorough moth damage inspection!).
Then strangely in the next chazza I went into a b/n Uniqlo polo neck cashmere sweater in 'rouge' leapt out at me. Still had all the swing tickets attached which showed the retail price of £79.90.....but on sale at half price in the chazza so £11.50 to me.11 -

A couple of finds today: a (1930s?) copy of Aucassin and Nicolette which is testing my French but is a nice little thing, and a scarf that happens to be in 'my colours'. Both from the Yorkshire Cancer Research shop, £3 and £2.50 respectively.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I’ve been really lucky with collecting coloured glass recently - I have found 3 dark blue bowls, a whole set of dusty pink bowls and plates, a yellow flower-etched jar, a pale blue fruit bowl, a red vase and a dark pink small bowl and trinket box.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. C_J said:@Miró Yes, I am certain you could use sea glass, it would be fab. Each different type of glass (I am learning) melts at a different rate - it’s called the Coefficient of Expansion. This means while your sea glass would melt, it might (or might not) be tricky to fuse other types of glass to it successfully, if the CoEs were incompatible. There might be some trial and error! As soon as I have fused something which doesn’t look too horrendous, I will post it. I’m still at the trial and error stage, although I’m getting better 😊I have really deep windowsills but don’t want to put glass in front of a window as it’s a fire hazard when it’s sunny.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. I have recently started collecting rainbow glassware to complement my re-arranged rainbow bookshelves (blame Pinterest lol!) - all of the glass on the shelves is from charity shops for between £1-4 a piece, the red Tiffany-style lamp (with a matching second lamp, £90 for the two which isn’t “cheap” but the design is rare & the red is absolutely stunning when it’s on, the photos don’t do it justice - I checked online and there are much smaller versions of the same design and they are between £40-50 each so I feel like it was a bargain) is from a local second-hand shop and the uplighter standard lamp (which has a pair of matching table lamps) was an absolute bargain off Facebook marketplace for £70 for the lot!I feel like it was meant to be as we already owned a matching standard lamp in exactly the same design (again from a local charity shop pre-covid for £15!) so we now have two standard lamps and two table lamps all matching. They also give off a lovely warm glow which makes the room feel cozy at night.(The tulip lamp was a gift, it’s the only new lamp in the room)“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
