Now, please don't be harsh cos I bought it in ignorance!
@Nelligrace your chap has an eye & excellent taste! The teapot shouldn't rub or degrade although finding a teacosy that fits it may be more of a challenge.
I enjoy the Jack Reacher novels. As a small plump female I like hearing 'modern' tales of knight errantry - the character may be a less than conventionally handsome chap but at over 6' and with a habit of walloping the Bad Guys, I enjoy the vicarious escapist fantasy! I like the occasional comments about coffee which suggest Mr Childs has a very strong relationship with caffeine & has spent some time researching the various vessels in which it has been commonly available across America over the years. Most of Reacher's vices seem to be affordable & if he hasn't yet grasped donations to thrift stores, at least his clothing has (sometimes) been reworn by others, when not unspeakably stained or tattered.8 -
"Tales of knight errantry" - I love that
Agree about it being escapist fantasy, so atmospheric it just sucks you right in. I'm reading Shuggie Bain at the minute and it's ....painful.... Bit like that other book actually. I'll have to lift out a Reacher or a Dave Robicheaux just for the lightness ha haa!I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.4 -
Thank you @Cherryfudge and @Brie for your thoughts re the crocodile bag. Talk about coincidence...yesterday I was in the Sue Ryder chazza and in the glass case that they display the more valuable items was another croc bag....it had a silver 'badge' featuring a croc attached to the front of the bag, very similar to the one inside my bag!
Took a chance on a trip to Otley today even though the snow had started, fortunately it didn't amount to much. Picked up a pair of walking boots by HiGear for £10, not a premium brand but very comfy and waterproof so will be handy in the snow if it comes. Look almost new with just a little mud on the soles as if someone wore them once and found them uncomfy or just decided walking was not for them!!6 -
A few items of late.:
White Country Rose (which when I googled it is Edinburgh Woollen Mill) long sleeved top £4
Green fine fleece Tu Hoodie £3.50
Black Cherry Berry stretchy trousers £3
Black stretchy velvet Topshot tee £3
Blue and white striped Primark sweatshirt £2
Fossil pink and grey rose patterned iPad case £1.50
Poole pottery blue sponge ware with a sunflower pasta bowl £3. I have a storage jar in the same pattern and I had a plate too but that got broken a couple of weeks ago😞.
I also donated a car full of stuff about 50 items including a couple of pieces of furniture. I’m trying to declutter and only buy really nice stuff. I’ve also decided to be a bit ruthless with ragging tatty stuff

Look almost new with just a little mud on the soles as if someone wore them once and found them uncomfy or just decided walking was not for them!!As I recall Himself used the size/wash labels & the zips as easy indicators as to whether an outdoors garment had actually gone much further than the shop to the recipient to the chazzer. That said, even if the Velcro was stuffed with pet hair etc, he would set about with a comb (for a decent garment). Then wash it & reproof it & by the time it was dry & on a hanger, you had to look quite hard to see it had had a previous life. (His grin was a bit of a giveaway though.)
Boots got a stern onceover of soles for any sign of wear - so long as that came up merely grubby, we could fix that with a scrubbing brush. Then stitching & laces - we had spare laces, but much less inclination to restitch things. Insoles - we found a market stall with sorbothane shock stopper insoles in various sizes at fell-off-the-back-of-a-lorry prices & cleared away about 20 pairs. (There were 5 of us & we loved our boots.) Swap in the recipients current insoles to try on, and (if the footwear fitted & was approved) trim a new pair of insoles to fit the "new" footwear.
(One evening a son stumped in grousing his feet were wet & anyway the combat soles were very worn. He was told to take them off then & go to a specific cupboard & bring the bag for life furthest to the left, & a pair of dry socks. His father had anticipated this day, had the boots bought & cleaned & fettled ready to go. All we had to do was chivvy the lad into drying his cold toes, pulling on clean dry socks & lo, transformation! Very happy lad & a deep sight of relief from my credit card as proper combats for cadets started at about £70 then!)11 -
And... I have some more books. An autobiography that looked interesting for £1 from that little charity shop with the blue front in the middle of N'ton High Street. Could it be the NSPCC? Anyway I thought that was good value for a hard back.
Then two from Cancer Research at £1 and £2.50, just history/crafts that interest me.
And I thought I was doing so well giving a small handful of books away! Now I need to find more to go.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

@DigForVictory how do you reproof something? Does reproofing come in a can/packet, or is there an old-fashioned-but-it-works trick to it?
I'm always wary when I'm buying waterproof jackets/shoes, because you never know if some kind soul has slung it in the washer before donating.I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.4 -
@YoungBlueEyes I use a wash in product to reproof waterproof things. It's not cheap and you can only do 2 items at a time and does need to be redone regularly but at least it's easy to use! It's a liquid product which you just pour into the machine in the same way you would washing liquid. The one I use is Nikwax.
I use it mainly for DH's golfing stuff jackets and trousers.
