Probably my last chazza visit til the new year
Trip to Otley and in the 20p shop I picked up an Oscar B, black & white spotted floaty midi dress. Short sleeved, v neck, flippy out at the bottom skirt and fully lined. Could not resist for 20p!
Nearly bought a beautiful B/N Jaegar black and white linen dress from Oxfam, priced at £19.99 but it was sized as 'medium' and that can mean anything so I needed to try it on. They keep their changing area locked so I had to ask for it to be unlocked and assistant no 2 had to be summoned to look after the til whilst I am accompanied across the shop to the changing area by assistant no 1 as I am not to be trusted with said key. Assistant no 2 takes an age and then begrudgingly appears and complains about having to a. descend the stairs with her bad leg playing up and b. interrupting her coffee break. Assistant no 1 finally proceeds to look for the key, unsuccessfully, an argument then follows as to who used the key last! At this point I gave up!!10 -

So much to read, so little time.9 -
It a shame you had a bad experience @Miró. I used to volunteer and we had someone walk out with a very expensive jacket and other clothing after trying it on. Some people are just not meant to be in "customer facing" roles. It hard though getting volunteers most of the time, especially for the smaller, lesser known charities. It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.8

They used to say butter so it'd form a fatty layer to keep the air out and keep it clean, but I thought the wisdom had changed on that...? Aren't we meant to run it under cold water to get the heat out of it now?
(Should you be in holiday in a dairy area, covering the sunburned back in a layer of plain yoghurt has helped - I think mayonnaise would be less cheap & easy & if necessary easy to wash off.)
May you never need to use this in the coming season & new year!9 -
DigForVictory said:We absolutely are supposed to ideally run it under a cold tap for 20 minutes (try keeping anyone somewhere for 20 minutes without a really good book or YouTube ?!) also water bring metered may cause concerns but the aim is to pour fluids
I'm convinced of this because my daughter once got a very painful burn on the palm of her hand and I insisted on the cold water treatment. It was still painful at bed time so she slept with her hand in a bucket of cold water! But in the morning, there was no trace of the burn at all. (And the bucket didn't spill, either).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I went into London yesterday and I seem to have forgotten the tube stations! I got off at Stepney Green when I meant to go to Aldgate East for the restaurant Unity Diner. I then said to my husband that it was just a short walk to Aldgate East and it was about 20 minutes. It was raining as well! I have only lived outside of London for a year and half, lol. I have lost my bearings completely!
I popped into the Spitalfields Crypt shop on the walk past (Rosa_Damascena knows this shop!) and I did see a black jumper with silver detail, but it was £14, which seems expensive to me?! I left it anyway.6 -

British Heart Foundation saves the day! Had to buy a house-warming gift recently and managed to find a simple lampstand in the BHF for £5 and jazzed it up with a Osram Vintage lightbulb from Argos for £17. Lo and behold - a perfect retro lamp for just 22 quid! Suitable trick for Xmas presents if you're stuck. Any other tips of upcycling furniture?9

@AmanitaGold, I had completely forgotten those lightbulbs! For some reason there was an orange one in our house... as a child I thought my parents' choice of colours was cringe-worthy but for some reason I now adore orange and have even bought cushions almost identical to those they had all those years ago.
What I can't remember, is how do the light bulbs look once lit? I can imagine you have to be in the right frame of mind, or not easily discombobulated!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
