I was thinking about coloured light bulbs a few days ago. I went through a phase of having blue light bulbs in my bedroom when I was a teenager. My group of friends all had the same thing and we all painted our bedrooms white too. I painted my bedroom floorboards black for some reason! Strange, no idea who had the idea first or why!

I added a re chargable lightbulb to a standard lamp giving me a standard lamp that stands in a corner of the room where there is no plugs for very little cash. I mention it as it is a great way of adding light to corners for very little. My local charity shop often has lamp bases and lampshades, just waiting for them to get a large one to replace the black one currently on the standard lamp that was just £5. I really wanted a lampshade, so I bought that (it is large) and will return for a more fitting one when they have one.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!3 -

As for coloured lightbulbs, my cousin has a string of these in the garden in Canada & they look amazing glowing up through the snow!5 -

This week I bought a chunky knitted cardigan from Edinburgh Woollen Mill (by way of the chaz) for £2 - it's going in the washing machine tomorrow. Today I chanced upon a BN telephone case compatible with my mobile for 50p, and in unusually pretty circular picture frame for just £1.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.7 -

I'm a charity shop adict. Where I live are few shops and while lovey stuff it's eye watering.
Been looking for dance shoes for years and saw some imitation snakeskin boots in a window of the charity shop, £5, perfect fit, not my normal style but a bit of a giggle and it's the fit that matters.
Currently I'm so happy with a red Rohan fleece jacket thats given me some street cred. £3. It had tiny paint splatters on the sleeve that came off with a scratch of a nail.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

I'm in, please! If it's okay, my 'charity shops' will continue to include car boot booty, but the season for that only runs for half the year.
Incidentally, Christmas presents both given and received included a few second hand treasures. I read an article, somewhere on here I think, about whether it was cheapskate to give second hand things but I really don't think that's a good way to look at it. If it's something the person wants, and is in good condition, surely the important thing is about trying to make the recipient happy, not the money spent. So a number of books have changed hands over Christmas that were right for the person but cost a fiver or less. I got another piece of the vintage Denby I collect, which they misguidedly stopped producing nearly forty years ago. I will admit to having a very obliging husband who is happy for me to hand him something I've treated myself to while announcing it was very kind of him to get this for a stocking filler, but of course those who aren't married to him could also consider buying themselves treats to open on special occasions!
My second hand buys for 2024 are going to have the following guidelines:- minimal yarn buying. I adhered to this pretty well through 2023, though my stash seems as big as ever.
- I have enough variations on cosy winter jumpers to last me... goodness knows how long. I mustn't pile up things I don't have room for!
- Kitchenalia: it has to be really special to make it into my kitchen nowadays. In theory.
- Recipe books. Nuff said. I can't commit to not buying any, but please someone challenge me if any more appear.
