I'm in for next year. I need to refurbish a lot of the house now it is finally mine (after years of 'trouble from the now ex' and I need to save as much as possible to rebuild my life so shop charity it is. I don't often go anywhere town wise so my charity shopping tends to be the local village one but that has been the source of so much joy this year I'm good with that.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!8 -
@Watty1 it is a lovely feeling to be in one's very own home without a troublesome partner, and able to choose one's decor etc and knowing it's been done on a budget is very satisfying.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Good morning, I very rarely post on here but I LOVE reading all about your charity shop bargains.
Fairly recently there was a discussion on wide leg trousers - just before Christmas I found a pair from Next reduced to just £2 in the RSPCA shop so I gave them a go. Well, I have to say they are so very different from the normal skinny jeans I wear but sooooo flattering. If you've never tried them give them a chance - you may be pleasantly surprised!
Apparently skinny jeans are so last Tuesday and as I'm now a lady of a certain age I was looking for something more suitable for me(although I am firmly a believer in if you like it wear it!)
Happy New Year everyone, so looking forward to hearing all about your bargains.9 -

I've been put off thinking they must be drafty...

I'm huddling indoors in pyjamas right now. The weather's foul.

I saw a newsreader wearing them and thought she looked smart! Give them a go - I was really surprised at how nice they look - not sure if they're draughty yet though as only tried on then in the laundry basket.7 -
I don't think I would suit wide legged trousers - I'm only 5'2" with a 27" inside leg. Always imagine I'd look like Bill Oddie from the Goodies opening credits.....
I have just scored a nice freebie from Olio. A White Company advent box - empty - but has the raffia inside all the drawers still and smells divine. I plan to fill it with goodies and raffle it for my charity fundraising next ChristmasCross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings12 -
@Coxy11, I’m 5ft2, like you. I tried some on once and I just looked dumpy - so I’m staying with the skinnies. Even straight ones looked dumpy!
Like many moneysavers I’m a great charity shop fan , but like @Cherryfudge , I’ve got a big stock of 100% cashmere and wool jumpers, some new and sone CS bargains. I’ve been stocking up as I hate acrylics etc and can see wool being way above my budget. But enoughs enough.I love reading about and seeing your finds. Here in France I am very fortunate in that there are three very good shops within reasonable distance and very good prices as well. When I go to visit DS in Cheltenham I browse the shops on the Bath Road but the prices are much higher than here. Since I’m also a declutterer I’m trying to limit CS buys, with some success on the nicknack front.
Still, the shops get me out , offer coffee, cake and chat. My dream is to visit Otley!
Happy NewYear to all.7 -
I bought some wide leg trousers early in the year and was amazed at the fit. The thing is that as a "lady of a certain age" and one with a backside the size of Montana the so called skinny style often doesn't snug in sufficiently at the waist. Most my trousers don't even need to be unbuttoned or unzipped for me to put them on/off. But the wide leg ones are snug at the waist but comfy due to being elasticated at the back. Granted I bought them new from M&S and at full price - a very unusual thing for me to do as I rarely buy anything unless it's in the sales.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
