Good morning savers to a new month.

I have kicked February off with a deposit into my 1p savings challenge starling space of £15 to  cover the month of February plus £2.26 to round it up.  Today is pension day so I like to do a money shuffle on the 1st then forget about it for the rest of the month.

Spreadsheet updated with the last few reports.  Happy hump day everyone.

I track absolutely everything, it's the way my brain is hard-wired so to find a way of saving which met the criteria laid out was a challenge until I came up with the following.

I'm trying to save using my monthly grocery budget as a basis. I set a daily amount to spend in that budget so anything under that amount will be moved into a little used account at the end of every month. (it's waiting to swallow it up)

It will also have the knock on effect of helping me stretch that budget - as in doing more of 'growing your own', using gluts to make preserves or freeze things etc. YS items also for the freezer, anything to make my money go further without compromising quality.

So for the month of Jan I've just moved over £44.23 into that account.

Lets see what Feb will do.

#15  moved £95.85 to savings pot. I'm trying to go backwards and will cash out at the end of November so have paid January, December and November. As these energy increases bite (feeling shocked at cost when I entered meter readings today) the amount to Christmas savings should reduce until it will be a very cheap November!

    Well done.

Did I miss a January update from you?  Is that £4.66 in your signature the amount you put in?

You are doing brilliantly.  I am still recovering financially from booking a few short breaks so have started with the cheaper months. You will pay the benefit near the end of the challenge.  I hear you on the energy costs but am hoping by the time the spring and summer are here the costs will reduce due to lower usage.

Sounds like you have a plan that works for you then.  Great amount for January.

can't make my mind up here so i have decided to put the whole ammount into my monzo account at the start of the month instead of drip feeding it.
so for february have deposited £58.09. this will increase with rounding up and interest so will do a final update at the end of each month.
