  • Hi all,

Just had the email stating our car needs to be returned by the 1st of May. 1 year into a 4 year contract. They are going to charge me £150 to collect the car as the nearest dropoff is 100 miles away. What a con. We need 2 cars as we have 2 disabled children and work to deal with, no way of getting another car in 3 months, been waiting a year for the new car we purchased that is still not here yet for the kids. At this rate, we will be left with no car and no money.

    Thanks Cazoo!

Here you go, this might help https://www.autotrader.co.uk/  Hopefully something suitable there, 600 cars under £1000 if you need a stop gap.

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Will they let you buy the from them? I assume they are just going to stick them up for sale anyway.

There are also plenty of used cars available within 3 months, though prices are still a bit mental.

If your kids have mobiltity problems then I can recommend the Vauxhall Combo Life - it's spacious, has rear sliding doors and a huge boot. You can get them from about £11k now.
  • There are some other issues with all this.  For example, if you signed up for a one year deal then the monthly price was higher than a three year deal.  In other words, the length of the contract was integral to the terms of it.  Consequently, people who have had shorter contracts were effectively duped.  Similarly, some people will be "under milage" mid-term as they might have planned based on the total term length.  It all sucks, particularly as you can find your own car on the Cazoo website as a PCP deal.  What they should have done is:-
    • Been more apologetic and honest
    • Waivered the collection fee, particularly as the dealer network is now closed and they terminated early
    • Provided some "tolerance" for mileage on return or heavily discounted the excess milage rates
    • Offer to convert subscription cars to PCP on a heavily discounted rate or buy outright
The only hope now for customers is to have a crash or have their cars stolen.  You're insured on their policy, you won't have to pay to return it...and excess milage may never be discovered.  Not that you'd do this on purpose, of course..that would be highly ilegal.

I took out my subscription in Feb 22, £400 a month with 1000 miles allowance
    Im within the allowance.

To take the same car with Onto for example is £539 with 750 miles add in 250 miles is 630.

In that example I am paying an extra 230 a month.
21 months would be nearer 5k I am paying extra.

Not saying I will this is just an example above the above.
I understand Cazoo's financial situation however just to cut us off and give us zero options is poor.

Do we have any come back via the legal route?
  • I'm in the same boat. Ordered a new car but not due to be delivered until August as I didn't want to get charged £500 to break the subscription agreement early but now have to find an alternative vehicle for 4 months.

I made a complaint but was effectively told I should think myself lucky that they've given 3 months notice as they legally only need to provide 1 month.....

That's myself unfortunately, got an email on Jan 10th, giving me only one month's notice, to return vehicle!!

I'm absolutely up the creek without a paddle now, was 8 months into a 3 Yr deal!
