Cazoo subscription cars : unfair changes to contract
Comments

Has anyone heard from Cazoo regarding being given notice to hand their subscription vehicle back? I’m in the same predicament as the posters above and wondering if I should just jump ship now and try and find a new vehicle.

My partner and myself are in exactly the same boat. We've both got subscription vehicles and we haven't heard anything yet. I'm hoping we don't but who knows what will happen in the next couple of months. Looking at other subscription services the prices are just unmanageable compared to what we are currently paying with Cazoo so hoping they don't give us notice. If not we'll both be using the 3 months notice as a period to find replacement vehicles but unfortunately this means going back to the good old PCP plans unfortunately. At least once the cars are handed back, we should get our deposits back in theory...clairel6768 said:Has anyone heard from Cazoo regarding being given notice to hand their subscription vehicle back? Hi OP
When you took out the contract, did you read it and as you say its "unfair," point them towards the contract?
Good luck.0 -
Regarding the excess mileage issue - does the contract quote this as a monthly figure, or as a figure covering the duration of the contract? If the latter I would suggest there would be grounds to challenge any attempt to pro-rata it if they terminate early, unless the contract explicitly says they can.frazzy123 said:Cazoo closed down their car subscription service to new customers a number of months' ago but now it looks like they are going after existing customers to cut costs.
Had an email yesterday to say that they will remove the cancellation penalty fee from the start of January 2023 BUT could also give 3 months' notice to terminate the subscription EARLY.
This could be terribly unfair to subscribers like myself who have "locked in" longer deals as inflationary pressures mean the same deals are no longer available. Also, it means that any excess mileage does not have chance to even-out over the period of the contact.
Surely they can't just change the contact length mid-term? It seems like contacts are pointless if the issuer can just change them at will. Imagine if your mortgage deal was ended early by the provider.
Anybody else in this predicament?1 -
Has anyone had notification yet they are terminating?1

Just had the 3 months cancellation email0

I can confirm I’ve just had my email come through
had to look elsewhere, paying £100 a month more, albeit for rear doors and a longer range, but even the identical car was more expensive. I was on such a good deal with Cazoo and only took out a 3 year contract in May 2022
I wouldn’t be able to get finance unfortunately with my credit rating. Let’s hope Elmo are better… 0 -
Hi folks. Thanks for your replies. Just had my termination notice for May 2023. Apparently they are doing this in "batches". As well as asking for the excess mileage they also want £150 collection fee. Ordinarily I could have taken the car back to my nearest branch for free but they are about to close it in April (Doncaster!). This is becoming impossibly unfair. How can we fight it? Where is Martin when you need him?0

I would put in an official complaint. I would definitely argue the excess mileage if your under the total mileage on your contract as you could argue on the later years you will do less mileage. Obviously if your already above your excess mileage for the full term you cant really complain.frazzy123 said:Hi folks. Thanks for your replies. Just had my termination notice for May 2023. Can you ask if you can return the car in April to the Doncaster branch to avoid the £150 fee? If not again put a complaint in and see if they will waive the fee?2
