ESA, savings & partner

I understand I will lose ESA but not PIP if my savings grow over £16,000. My girlfriend also gets ESA along with our housing benefit, if I was to have too much in savings would she lose her sickness benefit?

PIP is not affected by savings. Contributions based and New style ESA are both not affected by savings. Only means tested benefits like Income Related ESA, housing benefit and council tax reduction are affected. For council tax reduction some local Authorities have a maximum savings limit of £6,000.
  • Would my partners esa be affected by my savings?

If you live together and are both claiming ESA at least one of you is getting contribution ESA or new style ESA which is not affected. You could both be getting contribution based ESA or new style ESA. If one of you is getting income based then that will be reduced if your joint savings exceed £6,000 and will end if the savings exceed £16,000.

Are you living together. What sort of ESA does she get contribution based, income based or a mix of both or is it new style ESA?
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • She is in the support group and I'm just waiting for a work capability assessment form coming out to me

That doesn’t tell us what sort of ESA she gets.

I see from your other thread that you were getting new style ESA which is about to end.

  • She gets Lcwwra. Following my forthcoming assessment if it goes in my favour what will I get that?

That's what group she's in, not what type her ESA is.  It's also no help for trying to work out what type of ESA she gets because all the types continue indefinitely for someone in the Support Group.

By mentioning LCWRA does she (also) claim UC?
  • I don't know the different types of esa

I didn’t link them, unusual for me as you know i usually look.

Does she also claim Universal Credit? In your first comment you mentioned “our housing benefit” are you living with your partner?

    Income-based, contributions-based, and New Style.

It's very understandable that you may not know the different types, but unfortunately nobody can accurately answer your question unless you can find out which one your partner's is.
