Fishcakes....i hope, like you it will help my overactive mind too.
I have been on and off the declutter bandwaggon for many years and have tried to prepare better for this time. My biggest problem has been getting the stuff out of the house promptly. I have looked into how i can fit drops into my routine and who will take what.
2022 was my year of experiments..i tried no news..no mindless phone scrolling..the organised time technique...the organised mum technique...the getting things done method and followed dana k whites way of decluttering . Ive taken what works from these things and will be reapplying them in 2023. For me slow and steady wins the day so i will be plodding. Today kicks off:
1. VW boot tidy given to relative . ( not had VW since April 2022)
Great reading all your ideas and posts!

Happy new year everyone. I have just been catching up on all your posts. There is some impressive decluttering going on.I have had a productive day. Sorted out a couple of drawers, bedside cupboards and a christmas box ready to go in the loft. I have also taken the cards down.Decluttering today has included:
old diary
pages from note books
purse
loyalty cards
paperwork
4 books
old t shirts
2 belts
4 place mats
scarves
2 gift bags
cards/envelopes (mostly one or the other) unused
cracker box (remaining crackers stored in christmas box
recieved cards from this year
bits of ribbon
Thought I needed to buy leggings but on sorting my drawer find I have many more than I thought which is a bonus!'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'14 -
Definitely slow and steady wins the day here, too. Marathon and not a sprint, is what I’m telling myself, especially as I keep seeing places ripe for decluttering. I am making a note of them, hoping that I can plan them in and break them into manageable chunks rather than get overwhelmed. The one drawer at a time approach.
So today, with Christmas being moved back into the loft, I have decluttered 3 broken ornaments into the bin. Whilst DH was rearranging the boxes back in the loft, I poked my head up there. Yep, as bad as I remembered, if not more so. However, he did bring down a suitcase which appears to be full of towels and bedding for me to go through at some point. Whoever knew that was up there?!2 jigsaw puzzles which have lived in the kitchen since my mum died 10 years ago, as I was definitely going to do them, have been put into a bag for my sister. She will definitely do them and then take them to the cs. They haven’t actually left the house, but as I have put them in a bag with her birthday card for later this month, I am certain that they will leave. The difficulty was in making the decision to give them away, and that is done now.
1 mindful colouring book, unused, into the cs bag.
2 jars of chutney moved from the draining board to the cupboard where they belong.18 -
Started the healthier routines today. Will bring in new things gradually rather than trying to do it all at once.
Feel better already - having a workable plan and OH fully on board this time means there is a better chance of being able to stick to it.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅16 -
Hello!I’ve tidied up two hall cupboards today. First one is a shallow one that’s shelved. So there’s a bag of books and some photo frames to go to charity shop. Then cleared the bottom of the airing cupboard out. Suitcases now being stored there. Bag of remaining Christmas stuff to go to garage. Stuff in bin and recycling bin .
And a couple of used quilts to go to tip. They are already in my car boot ! Can’t make an appointment yet will try again tomorrow once holidays over for local council.Put two items up on local FB page ( I’m supposed to be having a FB free month but it’s a good way of moving things ) and they were both asked for straight away. And hopefully collected this evening. Also have a bag of unopened shower gel /shampoos from mums that can go to food bank .Filed some paperwork…it was sat on top of the file😆 so that’s sorted too. Feels like a productive day.15 -
My list might not include everything today, finding it hard to keep track as finished sorting all the Christmas decorations and putting them away, plus took four enormous bags to the charity shop. The shop was looking pretty empty compared to usual and they seemed pleased with the donations.

Can I join this thread, please? I am new to the forum but have been reading threads for a while. My parents died 13yrs ago and I took a lot of stuff from their house (about 8 plastic tubs) a lot of which is sentimental and difficult to deal with. My Uncle, who I cared for, died this year and I have acquired some of his stuff, also sentimental. I also have my own clutter to deal with.In addition I have a lot of paper clutter, I think I have every wage slip, utility bill, bank statement, etc that I've ever received.I live in a 1 bedroom flat and I am running out of space, I have decided that 2023 is the year I am finally going to deal with it allStart where you are, use what you have, do what you can
