I'm using around 14 kWh per day with heating, sometimes less as I turn it off earlier and jump into bed to watch streaming services, Plex, tubi and Pluto, it's costing me £1.70 every time I have the heating on for 7 or 8 hours, including the SC.
Two years ago it was costing me about the same, maybe a bit more, but the prices were a lot lower and the temperatures on the boiler and thermostat were a lot higher, 60 degrees boiler and 21 degrees thermostat, now it's 39 degrees boiler and 16 degrees thermostat and I am just as warm now as I was back then.Someone please tell me what money is0 -
maisie_cat said:We use wood pellets and are using 50% more this week than last year and the pellet prices have doubled. Last year £3.50 a day now £9.20 a day for 96 kWh. Luckily I bought pellets last July otherwise it'd be £11 a day.0

Central heating is to keep the whole house from getting too cold and damp otherwise why bother with it. Just use a heater for the room you are in. Obviously not all rooms at the same temperature. At this time of year I would keep the radiators at just 1 or 2 in other rooms to keep the damp down otherwise window condensation as now. Switch it higher in the bedroom an hour before to make it comfortable and bathroom if showering etc. All off while sleeping. Currently the rest of the house is an ice box as I can't afford the £40+ seems I would need. Not civilized.0

My electric is £32.47 and gas is £37.24 for December so far, 3 bed house but live alone, I also stay upstairs during the evening since its easier to keep warm.0

Just had a wee check this afternoon - this cold spell has me using ~85kWh/day averaged over the last 10 days for heating a 3 bed Edwardian terrace.. At EPG rates that is ~£9/day.
I have so far this December used (pretty much all in the last 10 days) ~60% of what I used for the whole of last December.
Mind you it was -11C the other night, didn't get above -5C during the day & several days it hasn't broken 0C. Hope that the weather warms soon.1 -
I’m just under 30kWh of electricity at this stage today - but it was -7° when I went out this morning at 8am, so hardly surprising. This is also the first day that the heaters have struggled a little - front room is hovering a little over 18 degrees at the moment but I suspect it will drop slightly as the evening goes on.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I bought a 7kg calor gas heater, one of those with 2 ceramic plates. back to old fashioned heating. I didn't want a bigger one for aesthetic and storage reasons. Actually gives off a lot of heat. Plus a carbon monoxide monitor! Waiting to see how long it lasts. Central heating gas now running much less. Hoorah. Rest of house still freezing of course. Perfectly good central heating but now costs too much to run in a civilised way. Madness.
However a true fire source is quite nice.
It will be useful for an unheated leanto from March when it is still cold but light and it will live there for about 8 months I reckon.
just for one big room.0 -
Have you worked it out if it's £30 for a refill then that's 31p kWh
Quite prepared to be corrected on this.1 -
If it's indoors, it's likely butane (the blue bottles). General advice is not to use propane (the red bottles) indoors.
Butane is about 13.7kWh per kg - so that 7kg bottle contains about 96kWh.
£30 for 96kWh is an effective unit cost of 31.3p/kWh.0
