MikeJXE said:My 2 bed flat electricity is basically the same summer and winter, 800 kWh, my gas annually 6,000 kWh is down this period mainly because I have realised my gas boiler pre heats the water I don't use so I have switched it off. There is no point quoting costs, usage in kWh is the way to compare.0

Really interesting to see real usage. I see wood burners feature! Exactly what I want. My cousin has one and is saving a fortune in their compact semi. It heats the whole house as 5kw is too much for one room. They use fans which I see others do too, bit like a wood chip burner. Actually multi-fuel - currently they use smokeless fuel saving wood. It's not Carbon friendly but we have to survive. They are retired and not on a large pension! £30 average winter bill shooting up to £60 is no joke on a low income.
Plus their money isn't going to Shell bosses and they can shop around. Still have to pay Standing charges though.0 -
Last December we were averaging 40kWh of gas per day but it was much milder. This December we are averaging 50kWh per day.
Electric we are averaging much the same 6kWh per day.
We had budgeted for the increase in prices so increased our direct debit payment early to make sure we had plenty of credit for the winter months. We will do the same again next year to make sure we have plenty of credit for winter and can heat the whole house comfortably.0 -
About £60-70 a week? Huge increase from last year. Unaffordable for many on low incomes. The increases in DD too. From £80 to £200 they wanted but didn't get. All our money going directly into the pockets of Shell. BP etc. 🤔
At least the lowest earners and pensioners protected this year.2 -
I've cut back a lot since the beginning of the year (have no data prior to January as I wasn't the account holder and there were no paper bills - I think the bills were around £180/month or even more in total).
I live on my own in a 2 bed, poorly insulated terrace, EPC E. I'm trying not to use GCH at all, only had it on for 1.5 hrs this winter so far (will use more over Xmas/NY if the current weather continues - my workplace is closed over the festive period and I have no plans to go out/socialise). It will be a sad, lonely and cold Christmas.

With the EBSS, you are already spending only £271 over 11 months, so maybe another £80 in December? Total £351 for a full year-that's incredibly low. And, if you project forward to March, it'll come down by another £200 with the remaining 3 months EBSS. Not forgetting the £150 C. tax rebate you already have had.
The support totals £550, which is only about £100 less than your annual spend. So, £8.50 a month outlay means you can afford to turn the heat up and at least avoid a cold Christmas.

Our bills go from the 25th to the 24th, so latest one was in November before the cold spell hit.We have a south facing 5 bed house, 280 sq m, built in 1988, but only really heat the rooms we use. In the others the TRVs are on lowest setting but doors left open to allow air circulation. This is no different from before. These radiators very rarely come on.
When we need to use another room, like the study, we turn up the TRV.
The house is timber frame and well insulated, we never get condensation on the windows, which are still the original double glazed wooden ones.
2 pensioners, usually home all day 5 days per week, out on the other 2.
Due to the price increases we are being more careful, and we had a new gas boiler fitted in May, so we have used less in October/November this year than last year. We keep around 21 in the lounge and kitchen/diner, 20 in the 2 bathrooms and maybe 17 in the hallways. We rarely heat the bedrooms. HW is by vented cylinder.Water is heated twice a day, heating is on, at present, 2 hours in the morning and 6 hours in the evening. I cannot stand being cold.
We do get a lot of warmth in the lounge and study when the sun shines.
This year Oct/Nov for gas we used 1910 kWh, last year 3119 kWh. Apparently it was milder this year, though up here in Central Scotland it did not feel like it!
Electricity use is very variable as we have solar panels. We are making more effort to use the DW, WM and TD when the sun shines, and we have turned off our old "drinks fridge".
The same period this year we used 379 kWh, last year it was 759. It has been sunnier this year.
We were on fixed rates till January this year, now on the capped, or whatever, prices.
Gas is 10.277p plus 28.485p per day...........last year 4.805p, no standing charge
Electricity is 33.763p plus 50.665p per day......last year 15.0055p plus 21.6777per day0 -
My gas cost has basically doubled from last year, I'm using 80-90kwh of gas per day.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.0

We use wood pellets and are using 50% more this week than last year and the pellet prices have doubled. Last year £3.50 a day now £9.20 a day for 96 kWh. Luckily I bought pellets last July otherwise it'd be £11 a day.0
