I have just received an email from the following address.

    Alternative Fuels Payment (alternative.fuels.payment@notifications.service.gov.uk).

    It reads as follows.

    Dear RG2015,

    Reference: X-XX-XXXXXXXX

Your application for the Alternative Fuels Payment has been successful.

A one-off payment of £200 will be made to your bank account using the details you provided. This payment will come from your local council.

It may take up to 5 days for you to receive the payment.

Future assurance checks will take place to ensure that the payment has been correctly awarded.

I got the email & the payment today. My receipts were prior to September 22 as well. Common sense prevails!
Good to hear, especially the bit about the dates on your receipts. Many will not have applied if they did not have receipts dated later than September 2022.

It would have been better if that common sense had been used before putting that date on the application portal.

Thanks @RG2015 and @kar999 - I submitted my application on 15th March with a receipt dated August and have just had an email confirming my application has been approved.

I really hope people weren't put off by the September requirement but can imagine that some will have been.

I received the email at midday on Tuesday 28th March but as yet I have not received the £200 in my bank account. I assumed that the payment would be made by BACS which takes 3 working days which would be either last Friday or today. I am now thinking I may have made a mistake entering my bank details.

Does anyone recall if there was a check on their bank account during the online application?

My recollection is that they said that they were checking my bank account which I took to mean matching my name with the account number.

Or it may just be that the payment will be there tomorrow.

Yes, my recollection is that they checked the account as part of the application. I suspect that there is a left hand / right hand thing going on between BEIS and your local council and you'll get the payment in the next few days. I actually got the payment before I got the email :)

Yes indeed. I spoke to my local district council who said it was the county council. The County Council said it was the Government and transferred me to the BEIS helpline.

The BEIS helpline said a 5 day payment window sounded rather optimistic and I should give it 10 working days. If I haven't received it by then I should call my local council.  :#

Anyway I checked my bank account this morning and it wasn't there. Then just now I logged in to check something else and I saw my balance had increased by £200.

So 9 working days from notification is actually quite acceptable and as I have just paid £463 to fill up my tank it was very welcome.

Further to my post above, the receipt details in my online banking have been updated overnight.

The £200 payment from my local district council was a faster payment dated 6th April with a time stamp of 10:39.

    Common sense prevails .....

The previous Alternative Fuel Payment eligibility window was from September 2022. UKIFDA have shared more information on this update and how heating oil consumers apply:

This window has been extended back to June 2022 to ensure that households who purchased fuel in bulk ahead of the winter are able to receive the £200 energy bill support they are entitled to.

If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.
If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.

Finally got my confirmation today. Was intrigued by this bit on the email.

Future assurance checks will take place to ensure that the payment has been correctly awarded.

What does that entail? I note it says they will take place and not might take place.

My email said that as well but I cannot answer your question

Did your email also say "It may take up to 5 days for you to receive the payment."?

It was actually ten days before I received the £200 in my bank account, although ten days was still quite acceptable.
  • Just checked my bank account and the money arrived four days before the email.
