After reading the stories on here I rang customer services and was told that if nobody had rung to say I wouldn't get them then there would be no problem.

I got to Currys (Sheffield) and gave them my reservation number only to be given just 1 lamp (I reserved 5, OH has lots of family). They made no apology and just stood there. I'm not good at the agro thing so I just stood there too which was pretty uncomfortable, lol. I asked what had happened as I had reserved 5 and the girl said she thought they probably didn't notice that i'd reserved 5 and just put the one aside and another member of staff made up some lame excuse about the computers not being in sync or something. She got the manager but he didn't speak to me just her and didn't offer any help.

I took the one but am not happy as it was an hour round trip and now i've got to get other prezzies.

Time to complain I think. I'm much better in e-mail than in person, lol.

    Hi all.
I have just reserved some icars at one store, and the water vortex at another. I will certainly be ringing first thing tomorrow to make sure they have my 'reservation' on their system, and that they will honour it.
If I do get there and find my order 'missing' I will certainly be asking to speak to a manager - Christmas shopping is stressful enough, and travelling to collect stuff costs a fortune in time and money - I am already steaming just reading all your posts about wasted journeys and shifty staff - I feel ready to rip a strip off someone already, and I've not even been let down yet ;):p
Hopefully I will be reporting back with good news, or else.......:D

I reserved one of each of these lamps and picked them up tonight. I have not tried the lava lamp yet, but the Zeontech Mini Water Vortex is brilliant.

Just fill it with water and switch on. The water changes through a whole load of colours with a vortex rising through it. Very effective and soothing too. But I would not recommend giving them to anyone other than an adult. (too risky)

All the shops assistants rushed to get one when I picked mine up. Well worth the £1.99. They are listed at £25 on a lot of sites, and even in Dixons they are £15. Thanks again for this post. Polly:j

its ok for 1.99, its noisy and cheap looking though.....sort of thing that would be in the markets in kowloon, Hong Kong for 50p or less......the 12v adapter is worth the 1.99 anyway

i also picked up the mini scaletrix for 29.99 (was 59.99)

For those of you who have reserved any of these items i would try to pick them up asap, yesterday afternoon i reserved a vortex , radio submarine and an icar in black. I arrived at the store to pick the items up about 2 hours later and i was told they had sold all the vortex lamps and had no more in stock i explained i had reserved one and the assistant told me there online system does not guarantee you will get one when you get there? he explained the best he could do was give me the one on display but no box no instructions etc (can't use that as a chritmas prezzie then). So i decided to take the used one on display 2nd item submarine radio no problem then the third item i reserved was an icar in black only to be told they had none of these in stock by this time i was getting a little annoyed and then spotted a stack of icars behind the sales counter so i asked if i could have one the reply i got was oh no there mine:mad: needless to say i was fuming that you can reserve online get to the shop and then it has either been sold or the staff have got them for themselves so oif you have a reservation PICK THEM UP ASAP.

same happened to me - i reserved 5 vortex's....ok a bit greedy i know.....they didnt have any - then the staff member suddenly produced 1...hmmm....reckon the staff nabbed the other 4 - still i was happy as really went in to get the scaletrix...which they had - think they have another at the reading east store

Hi, I just used the filtered water out of my jug in the fridge. I suppose long term distilled water would be best, to stop it silting up.

But in the interim, I cant see the harm, especially as the lamp was so cheap. (The distilled water is no dobt more expensive than the lamp)

just boil a kettle - let the water cool - pour in water into the vortex using a fine mesh sieve and you should be ok - but whatever for 1.99 you can use tap water!! or maybe evian - lol!!

you used to be able to buy distilled water for car batteries from petrol stations or halfords but unlikely now as most car batteries are maintenance free

Distilled water is only 51p a litre in Wilkinsons, Asda and Tesco.

almost free - boil tap water, then let it cool - not as good as distlled water but should be fine

Apparently boiled water is not distilled water. See my post one page ago: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=7341105&postcount=57

A quick tip for people who ring to confirm their order before setting off to collect the lamp, only to arrive and find it's not on the system.
The system is designed to delete it after it has been accessed. I think it assumes that the transaction has taken place as soon as the customer details are put in.
I'm happy to be corrected by any DSGi employee, but I think this is how it works.
  • Just to balance things up slightly. I reserved one this morning @ Liverpool Speke branch and an hour later a very nice girl called me to check I still wanted it and confirmed it was put to one side.
