Thanks Timelord,The forum itself is still showing the old "before May" message. We will have to see what has been changed when it reopens. The call for moderators is interesting. I already mod a couple of techie/software fora. but I'm not sure if applying/becoming a mod on Youreable might influence giving advice there.0

I messaged DLF as I was checking the page and noticed nothing was happening seems there's more info on the Twitter links than online.
I believe the Mods will be to mainly to stop spamming and put topics in the right area, I don't think it would impact on their own Queries or topics but I guess someone will have an overall control of who and what stays and goes.Exciting News! I have offered to help out with the modding on Youreable before, particualrly for weekends and out of office hours.
But they wanted to keep it in-house.I'll think about it again. (Another 'Work Related Activity' to put on my UC journal, LOL).I currently mod on the forum of a major software company and it can influence the replies that you give, but that doesn't stop me criticising the software/company when needed, both publicly and in the pivate 'staff' area there.
Being a mod does also tend to make people regard your posts as being more 'offical' so you have to be careful in that respect too.
(Another place I used to mod I have seperate usernames registered, one a mod, one not).As you say I imagine that what's wanted at Yourable would be mostly spam removal and general tidying, there weren't many arguments or the like visible there.0 -
Lol UC journal they'll have to give you lunch vouchers soon.
I guess with the various disabilities it's hard to mod something that you may not fully understand.
I haven't seen anyone arguing since I joined several years ago now. The issues are mainly about the lack of contact to get errors or problems sorted, it was roughly taking a week to sort issues and felt unmonitored overall. But when people were saying give members more say' an control over it, that would help no end and it costs them nothing as it's all voluntary by people that care also vetting membership on content of first posts inspected before being made public and if its spam account deactivated. I think it's a helpful community overall and benifits knowledge of subjects they would not know about and learn in the process.1 -
They had problems back in 2010 when the volunteer mods went 'rouge'. I'm not sure exactly what it was all about but they shut because of it, and when the forum eventually came back it was in-house moderation only.Do employers still do luncheon vouchers? I've not heard of them since the 1970's?I do get a free 'Professional' licence for the software who's forum I mod on, but TBH that's needed as part of giving advice to users.I never saw much spam at yourable, which shows that their filters and mods were doing the job even if a bit slowly at times.

Luncheon vouchers do exist but only available through certain business via apps now NHS and Private hospitals have that as a perk.
I've done moderator work on forums and for YouTube channels, all very different some more about spam and others more abusive to the creator of the content, some your wasting your time as only those groups arguing will continue to look for an avenue for conflict discord groups are probably the worst thing.
I remember some weekends were it started robotic posting on every thread and people just gave up for days until it stopped.0 -
We've had spam attacks the last few weekends on the software forum.
(Weekends being an indication that it's either a student off school/college, or the spammer thinks that being a company forum there are no mods at weekends).Obviously not fast enough to be a bot, the indications are a real person in India, probably getting paid a pittance for posting advertising.
Making a few additions to the 'abusive word' settings, so that any post including particular words gets automatically moderated and needs approval to show, seems to have discouraged them there were only a few this Friday.0 -
Ah yes the flagged words software that basically became capcha god I detest that software a learning tool click on a lion click on an elephant. It's gathering info with every touch. Well not long to wait until the opening I hope it remembers us, rather than creating a new account.0
