May I chip in here about the time I was the groaning body in the bed as my friend conducted a viewing?! 12 years ago, parting from my first husband, up north to visit an event and staying with friend. A client took us out for the most glorious depraved dinner ever...next day my goodness I was feeling it! After a hard day's work, took myself off to bed for a quick nap...simply could not move once I'd achieved horizontal. In the end, the viewing continued with me in bed; yes actually in bed. They did make an offer however, which was my defence in the years of teasing that followed.8

I hope the viewings go well on Saturday EH.I remember when I was looking at flats before I bought my current one my friend came with me and the door to one flat we were viewing was opened by a guy who I thought looked like Lurch and my friend thought looked like a serial killer! The flat was a house conversion and he owned and lived in the top floor and was selling the ground floor. I didn't like the flat anyway but he was definitely weird and I didn't fancy him as a neighbour. My pal crowned it all by saying he probably had a secret passage from his place into the ground floor flat and that the previous owner was buried under the floor boards!😱Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Loving the house viewing stories 😂😂January spends - £587.582

Morning all! Fabulous house viewing stories indeed - had me chuckling! Thanks to all the lovely visitors for sharing them - even if you HAVE got me slightly alarmed about what we might be walking into! Our most notable one was a flat we viewed when we eventually bought where we are now. A nice flat, in an OK area. A good size too - and - the excitement - it had a utility room AND a decent sized kitchen! The agent was showing us round, and after looking at the kitchen and utility which were the first rooms on entering, he threw open the door to what we knew was a long lounge stretching front to back of the flat. Along one wall was a long sofa - probably a four seater - and crammed onto it, in a line, and all staring at us, was the entire family of six who were the current residents. They continued staring at us the entire time we were in the room - I've honestly never felt so uncomfortable!
MrEH had rugby training last night so I am delighted to say that NO house related stuff was done - a nice relaxing evening was had! I did do some money shuffling though - the extra money has been paid to the food account and the standing order uplifted to reflect the new budget from next month, and I made the manual payment to the Nat10nwide Reg Saver to see if it would accept the 13th payment - so far, so good, it hasn't bounced back so MrEH will do his today. We've got a nice little upcoming flurry of Reg Savers coming to an end this month - both our C0v3ntry ones, and my Nat10nwide one too - MrEH's one of those is very early feb I think. I'll set aside enough to make sure that my FD Reg Saver has funding for its remaining 10 months - and will set a standing order for that too I think - and the balance will get transferred to straight easy access at the moment we think - ready for use when needed for potential house purchasing excitement.
Our intention on the finances for the new house is to use the value of ours as the deposit (could be anywhere between £190k - £210k - we've not got a total feel for the market and will see what the agent has to say I think. Might also get a couple of agents to look so we really get a consensus, although we think we know the one we plan to use. There are relatively few 2 beds in our little area - and only 6 of those there are ground floor with one of those still being owned by the council, so they don't change hands THAT often - ironically one of the other 2 bed GF's is also currently being prepped for sale though - this might be a good, or a bad, thing! The agents are always keen to get their hands on them though, which is useful. Then we're currently looking at £125k mortgage - with anything extra above that being topped up from our savings - although we might consider increasing that mortgage amount a little to free up funds for work needing doing to the new property. We're starting a "new house" savings pot now with the contents of what was our "Account formally known as...(the Mortgage OP Pot)" - I'm not just renaming it because the interest rate isn't great - we can get better by opening a new one! That one has been being used to fund random extra adventuring - but if we are taking on another mortgage random extra adventuring will be taking a back seat for a few years. That will be used for incidental expenses getting ours ready, plus oddments like the disbursements we're paying upfront- and once the 0% CC is cleared all joint account surplus will be finding its way to there for a while to help with seeing what we can amass there against expenses. once we HAVE a mortgage again, it will revert to being the mortgage OP pot.
Other MSE stuff:
- NSD yesterday - going to be trying or a few more of these going forwards I think
- All current accounts rounded up to feed the VSP pots
- Car account over at Sant-And-Er rounded down to £250 balance and £300 sent to the main one (higher interest again!)
- Food on plan - I marinaded pork steaks last night ready to cook tonight. Not quite decided what to do alongside those yet but we have plenty of options.
Further food stuff:
Tomorrow is going to be a turkey curry I think - I found an ancient jar of red curry paste in the fridge last night which I'm determined will get used up soon, so I'm actively planning that into meals. That will also work with the small pack of Jasmine Rice we were give by a friend who wasn't going to use it and thought we might. I'll throw the scrapings from a tub of soured cream into that, too.
Friday I will most likely do some form of burgers with chips - in fact, I might revisit the kidney bean burgers (Jack Monroe?) which leaves mince in the freezer for another day.
Further ahead than that needs planning yet.
I should do a freezer audit over the weekend.
Round up:
- Today AND tomorrow should both be NSD's
- Tonight is sorting out in the front room, tomorrow will be voluntary role stuff
- Saturday we have viewings in the AM, then I'm straight into a voluntary role related meeting and MrEH has rugby.
- Sunday will be more flat-prep - hopefully the final touches - and maybe a trip to do a shop at Mozzas and review a possible area to move to a little further afield.
