Thanks Mark. Glad I brought my electric blanket. Used it for 30 mins before sleep and from 4 in the morning would have frozen without it.

Nice photo - I think looking at towns and cities lit up is one of the best bits of the long dark winter months.  There's a viewpoint near me where on a clear night you got an amazing view of London in the far distance.  The Wembley arch is a great landmark fans always helps me to get my bearings on the city view.

hope you are enjoying your weekend away - a nice change of scene and good company.

I know the replacement car conversation has moved on but for what it's worth I changed my car towards the end of last year.  I had a 7 year old fiesta which I'd had from almost new and paid £10k for.  I was pleased to trade it in for £4,500 but the new car cost £19k.  Same brand, different model, similar mileage to what the fiesta originally had.  So slightly under double the cost.  I was really shocked when I started browsing at the big jump in price in that 7 years.  I certainly didn't have anywhere near enough in the car fund pot but the fiesta would likely have needed pricey work this year so I decided to raid other savings.  I did get cash back on my payment card and OH claimed our promotional £100 Tesco voucher so that's made me feel a bit better about the spend.  I'm happy with the new car and it feels good to know that it's reliable and safe.  Will try to replenish savings over the next few years.

your current car sounds ideal for you and hopefully it will keep going for a long time yet.
