Thanx for that Molly, I dont eat a lot of bread but mostly because its so expensive to buy a decent loaf, when I do buy bread its mostly to go with soup, thats why I buy Scoittish plain......though a decent loaf of bread and nice cheese and that could be my staple diet....
Cant quite believe that this time last year I was thinkin about Spring/Summer clothes and shoes and spending a fair bit of money on those. I really thought that this month would be so hard for me cos I used to think its Spring and we need new clothes...... and now I'm really really questioning every single item that I buy, this thread has saved me so much money. Thanx Nyk
though I might buy a breadmaker to satisfy my spring spending hormone!!!!!

Apart from a few groceries, I haven't spent a bean this week:D
I have to venture out today although I don't want to, as my BF and I have to get some food in for tomorrow's lunch. My DS is off to Worthing today for a week with his dad, as that is where he lives so it will be a really inexpensive week next week as he won't need any money for school, I won't have to feed him, and the electricity bill will be slashed in half!:T
On Monday evening we went out to a pub for an Irish quiz night as it was St.Partricks day, and my BF won!:j He won us Guiness T-shirt each which are actually really good quality, so I know they will wear and wash well.
I'm feeling a bit strange about money at the moment, although I am well within my budget, spending is not a problem for me...as I just don't...but I feel a wee bit flat. Am I making sense?
I'm just going to pop over to my sisters for a load of rolls and toms that she has for me. I can feel a tomato soup coming on!:rotfl:Living a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

Good morning from the Arctic Circle :rotfl: I have so many layers on, its becoming a little difficult to move :rotfl:
Had to give in and put the heating on as I can't leave the shutters closed all day to keep the cold out. If it was just DH and me I wouldbut we have DS and wife here and I feel maternal need to make them warm and cosy.
DS admitted that one of the reasons for the extended visit over Easter is because they only have £4 to last til Thursday so it was cheaper to pay petrol from Glasgow to visit and get fed all weekend
Kids, don't you just love them
But DS will help DH with a lot of heavy jobs this weekend. And, how we love to see them.
I am working this weekend and DH is still on crutches so we did buy some pizzas. DH would normally make them but is a little impeded :rotfl: so I bought a couple of "Two for One" and they had eaten them all by the time I got home so I had the last of DH's Leek and Potato soup. We are having Easter Dinner today as visitors are off home tomorrow morning..."Reduced" roast pork and trimmimgs and loads left (I hope) for the rest of the week
I love to keep the Easter traditions alive. Managed to get 8 Hot Cross Buns for £1 in Iceland and they are lovely. I will be feeding my Mum as well.
Not worried about spending the extra on food this time as I will have worked 2 bank holidays at time and a half and a day in lieu, plus an extra shift on Sunday.
Unfortunately, DH does not get sick pay while he is off and because he has a small pension from taking early retirement from his last job that he was made redundant from, he can't get SSP. Its a real shame the way things work.
We are going to see if he can get Income Support but he is determined to go back to work next week, even though the GP confirmed that he has a broken bone in his foot0 -
Bleufleur, sorry to hear about your tooth, hope you're getting it sorted.
Janey, I'm the other way with my parents - we're very open so they know exactly how tight things are this end but I hate to ask for help. They end up getting round it by giving us bits of food that they've 'got too much of', bless them. I try to pay my way for everything though, as they do so, so much for us (they bought his house!!Not quite as bad as it sounds, Dad has a property business but still, they wouldn't have taken out the mortgage if we didn't need somewhere to live). I'm sure your kids are just as grateful. Sorry to hear OH's foot is broken, hope he can get some income support to tide you over. And it's so great to hear how much you love your job, I love it when people do!
MiniHuny, what about using Billy Can (I hope I've got this right?) to save the money you need for the BM in first, then see if you still really want it then? I am happy I have mine (from Freecycle) but if you don't eat that much bread, maybe it's more about the spending urge?(can relate to that!)
FunBrum, I know what you mean - we aren't spending much at the mo and are in budget for the month but I don't feel very excited about it either. Hoping it'll pass...
Talked myself out of food shopping today, and am thinking of going to the library to read the paper...although the weather might mean I snuggle up on the sofa with a bought one and a cup of coffee instead...we'll see...
Lacking in energy today, despite a fairly good night, just looking out the window and thinking if I can drag myself out for a windy walk it might really help...The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

yes Bails, was thinjing about using Billy can cos it definitely is the spending urge that I'm suffering from at the moment. I was going to buy one on Tesco online. last night but didn't..........and this morning, I'm like breadmaker???? who needs a breadmaker!!!!!
there's a recipe in my WW cookbook for tomato bread and I'm going to make some cheesey scones.....mebbe if I indulge in some sort of baking, the urge to buy that thing will leave me forever.......cheerio hen0 -
Happy Easter, everyone.
Our freezer has packed in now.
I went to get some bread out last night and it felt distinctly floppy - as in, not very frozen. I asked the OH if she'd got anything out recently, and she said no and then did her "I'm lying and guilty" face. :S
She then admitted that when she'd got the previous loaf of bread out, a couple of days earlier, she'd noticed the same thing but not done anything about it. Err ... d'oh!
I'm 99% convinced the thermostat has gone, as when you set the freezer to "fast freeze" it works fine. But on normal settings, it isn't making any noise and therefore isn't doing anything at all.
I think I'm going to try a bit of DIY. But until I can get the thermostat it will have to stay on "deep freeze" for a good few days.
(BTW I know we shouldn't eat the partially defrosted/re-frozen stuff. But we will anyway).0 -
Mmm tomato bread sound good - how do you make it?
I was looking at some bm recipes yesterday. Going to try a few as I make my own bread.
Bails -I am going to be out digging some of the garden for veggies. Not much space, but at least would like some salad stuff. Quite keen on the idea of herbs too, as they just cost so much. Bought a raspberry and a blackberry bush yesterday.I have a confession
Last weekend I booked a holiday abroad for dd and myself in July.
Last five years have only used the holiday budget to visit parents who lived in Cyprus and then in England (still a flight as back injury prevents me driving).Last year I won several short breaks, so didn't feel I needed anything else. This year dd is 16, so thinking shw may not want to holiday with old mum again, I have booked a week in Alcudia. £736    . Went to travel agents and they quoted around £12000. Dd so embarrasssed when I just laughed and assurred tham it could be done cheaper. Came home and booked online. As I work in a school it has to be school holidays, which really bumps up cost plus scottish flights. Still happy as same holiday £1140 on most sites. It kin of blows the budget though. I have won 2 x £25 and £62 towards it so far. Some way to go methinks :rolleyes:0 -
Hi ,
I've got DD2 in the kitchen making crumble with some sad looking pears...she wants to bake cookies after that...then I need to make some leek and potato soup with a sad looking leek and I've just had left over baked beans on a lonely looking, left over crust.....how frugal does that all sound..?
We haven't got snow here....how sad...I hope we do cause it'll give me an excuse not to do anything, but stay inside....
My sister in law sent a tenner for me to get kids some easter eggs, but they've already got 3 each so I think I might suggest taking them swimming or something with the money instead.
I've also got ebay turbolister at the ready cause I could do with getting some stuff sold...I think there's an ebay challenge thread on here somewhere, perhaps I should take a look...
In regards to the breadmaker...can't bread be made by hand? Or is that alot more work?
I hope you all have a great weekend, whether it be spending time on your own or with family...xxx0 -
Good morning everyone, hope you are all having a good Easter weekend:D
Quite windy her today, definately a day for staying indoors.
Plans for today include making a fruit loaf in breadmaker , cooking from stores, planting some seeds for my veggie garden and drying some bay leaves in dehydrator.:D
Added £10 to my sealed pot in lieu of electricity payments - savings adding up nicely:D
need to check banking as some dd's due out next few days.
So far this week spent £7.65 on top up shop
£10.00 electric savings
Within budget so far:D0
