The explanation for the shoes on the shore sounds reasonable but what about the ones you see on the motorway? I have never been able to figure that one out.0

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Love it...I've always wondered this myself! I can visualise a couple, falling out and having a row on the motorway and then throwing the clothes/shoes out of the window and saying, " no...you leave"!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:Living a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

Oooo, elantan, we were thinking of doing a cookery course in Thailand this summer too (it's one of the countries I'm going travelling in, lol) - did you think it was worth it? Could it be adapted for vegetarian cookery?
Just checking in to update my signature - up to £45.00 a week from £44.06 so that's good  I've also optimistically added all the bingo wins to my savings amount... let's hope they hit my account!
Have a nice Monday morning everyoneI look forward to reading more posts, this thread is excellent :T

the thai's eat alot of vegetarian food they even have a 9 day vegetarian festival so it will be no problem at all to adapt ...i cant recommend it enough to be truthful as i said its kinda a basic's but if you learn that you can easily adapt it to suit yourself ...we even make a delicious curry with pineapple and grapes and until recently thought fruit had no place in curries..if i can help anyone in anyway with either chinese or thai stuff ( i am not the best but i know the basics) please feel free to ask either by pm or on the thread...which part are you going to ?0

Well after a couple of lazy weeks, I have finally got around to adding up my totals and it looks like it is going to be VERY tight! Adding what I have spent so far to the amounts allowed in my budget for the rest of the year are showing about £200 overpend by the end of Dec. Time for some belt tightening I think!
DS2 has rather uphelpfully grown and I had to buy new shoes/trainers AGAIN this week! Hopefully they will last a bit longer this time.
I have been spending some time reading about rationing etc in WWII from a library book this week and also a couple of great old threads on the OS board about the same subject and am hoping to use some of the recipies and ideas from that era to help me. I didn't realise quite how little clothing they were allowed for example - ration equated to 1 outfit each PER YEAR!!!!
This has made me feel a bit guilty of the tons of stuff hoarded in my wardrobe (espec as I often 'have nothing to wear!:D ) and food cupboards, so this week I am going to 'stocktake' all of our clothes/food etc and make a list of ONLY those things I absolutely cannot manage without.
'MAKE DO AND MEND' will be my new mantra.0 -
:j We're into the final countdown of February! :j
MollyMop - I'd love to build one of those greenhouses and I certainly know where to get the empty plastic bottles from now. Good luck with this - please do a phot diary for us
Grandma - Shoes on motorways? Hmm... next time I find myself on a motorway I am going to play spot the shoe! There was a heavy-duty, green welly on the shore yesterday - could probably have got a lovely flower display blooming from it this summer! :rotfl:
The_Cat - I like the way you have budgetted forwards to spot any potential overspend. I've now incorporated which day we are on and how many days we have left into my signature, so a possible £200 overspend equates to cutting down by approximately 64p per day to avoid it. It makes it seem manageable when I look at mine that way
Lingojingo - well done with your breadmaker bargain :T
Off to catch up with work now, and need to go get milk & bread at lunchtime, as I can't keep up with whats needed (or wanted!!) here. It's getting closer to a war zone when someone wants what isn't in the cupboard or fridge. That nuclear bunger is beginning to look really good! :rolleyes:I reserve the right not to spend.

HI,
Life is good today. Got a steam cooker from Freecyckle and my Mum just emailed me that she has sent me a parcel with some clothes to my LO and some CHOCOLATE for me! Bless her! Would anyone know if there is a thread for Anonymous Chockaholics anywhere in this forum?

Payday today
Why did I set my council tax to go out on payday? Now I don't even have 1 day to feel rich on
MIL continues to surpass herself with the cooking - chicken, salad and mashed potatoes last night followed by pancakes and enough left over for today. I looked forward to it all day at work yesterday.
Ref the posts above, I love, love, love fruit with savoury dishes.
Hopefully, MIL will hear about the job today and hopefully she will get it. We have everything crossed. Not that there is a particular rush but it is in such a lovely setting that it would be a joy to go to work each day.
My parttime job is changing the way it pays us, so in March it will temporarily reduce the salary but will catch up with a lump sum in April (don't ask!) I quite like the idea of the lump sum, but we could have cash flow probs and I want to try not to dip into savings. So I have suggested to OH that he gets a part time temp job. He is nervous so is being a little resistant. Never mind, I will keep up the pressure. He's a bit like this with new things but generally enjoys things when he gets going and it would be good experience.
It transpires that MIL is a pretty good hairdresser too amongst her many talents. OH's hair looks really good after she has attacked it with the scissors yesterday. She has offered to do mine too. I am pleased about this as even at the local college it cost £28 last time. I just hope she isn't nursing a secret grudge against me, lol, or it could be a disaster.
Got to go thro Finances again today and try to update the spending diary. we're rubbish at writing down cash purchases so we just try not to use cash. But we've had to get it out lately for parking etc and it is dribbling away quickly. I force us to get the spending diary up to date every so often as we get so fed up trying to remember where it's gone that it stops us spending at all for a few days!
Now, I really must stop putting it off....:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Has anyone tried going for a full day without electricity? I was just thinking about this whilst reading about E-DAY on 27/28th Feb (Link here) and I'll try my best to cut down further for the day (difficult in this house). But it did make me wonder (again) about our absolute reliance on electricity and how much we are bound in by those 'rules'. Looking around me, it seems impossible to live without electricity and it's quite sad to think that, on one hand, we are constantly encouraged to become more and more dependent on electricity whilst, on the other hand, we are constantly reminded that we are killing the planet by doing so...
Does anyone on here generate their own power at home?
