I'm off to the station in a bit... parents are having beef roast dinner for tea.. i'm not a meat eater so won't be hanging around... although i've 'pinched' half a tin of roses, three creme eggs, half a bag of cat litter and some nail clippers :rotfl: :rotfl:
So... choc and free ale (spitfire, belated b'day pressie) in front of the telly tonight :TProud to have dealt with with my debts

I'm back from Bunnyinthelights place!! Had a fab evening with her , Immoral_Angel and Snaggles last night. Snaggles' family get lovelier each time I meet them. We drank lots of pink wine, ate lovely nibbles and sang our hearts out on Singstar!
I had a 90 minute wait for a train connection and I was freezing. I sat in the station cafe and eyed up the toasted sandwiches and then firmly (and repeatedly) told myself I was NOT going to pay £2.49 for 2 slices of white bread and 1 slice of ham, even though it was going to be toasted!!"Stay Wonky":D

Hello to all (even those who are trying to hide) Todays posts make excellent reading, as always :T Blow-outs, shoe boxes, EWAD attacks, frugalitis gone awry and all in the name of budgeting - most entertaining! :rotfl:
The odd blow-out is to be expected and it can happen both ways, not just on the overspends! Just means mega under-spends to catch-up.
Bails, you have just hit on one of my biggest problems - PLASTIC! It drives me NUTS! I try to cut down, I take my canvas shopping bags, I try to get loose fruit & veg and bake as much as I can at home - but still the packaging monsters invade! It's getting more and more difficult to buy loose veggies etc and, like you say, cheaper to buy pre-packed in many cases. And as for plastic cartons....
I've spent nothing today, but had a lovely afternoon out and made the most of the beautiful sunny day. I left the washing hanging out and then off we set for our frugal trip, to the seaside! :T It was high tide, so there wasn't much shore for walking along but, as the tide turned, I was able to find quite a few shells for decorating Billy Can! We also found a plastic duck, a plastic lamb, a plastic teddy bear, a small flowerpot and a souvenir mini football from Ireland! :rotfl: I guess you could say I've now had my first experience of beachcombing! :j I was amazed at the amount of driftwood and am now really missing having my open fire! And the other thing that shocked me was the amount of plastic! In one trip along, I could probably have collected enough plastic juice bottles to build me that greenhouse! Wishing Book now needs updated to reflect the location of future house to call home - near the beach and handy for nearby woodland/forest for collecting cones and kindling
(Bails - save some of those breadbags as they come in handy for storing your hm bread and rolls.)
NYK's Frugal Hints & Tips - for a free (ish) day out, pack a picnic and head for your nearest seaside. Remember - a rocky shore catches more! You could come back with enough plastic bottles to build a greenhouse. :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.

:hello: everyone! its been another NSD for me today
I've been looking through my food cupboard tonight and its looking okay for the next few days, so hopefully all I'll spend is some money on some milk. Got a friend visiting tomorrow and we're going out for a meal, but hopefully it won't be too much!
bails, sounds like your OH is taking lessons! lolI never manage to nab a table on the train, so he did well!
CharliesAngel, you got a good hoard there on the way back! I've given up chocolate for lent, and the sight of Creme Eggs are killing me everytime I'm in a shop! lol
keren29, well done on resisting the toasted sandwiches! I hate it when you're stuck on a station platform - the vending machines seem to call out to me and don't even get me started on the coffee! Especially when its cold, so i'm in awe of your will power!Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I live near the seaside at home, and love going for a walk on the beach with my dog on a sunday. I miss it when I'm at uni! I'm another person who seems to have so much plastic packaging left over. I try to buy everything loose, but there are some things from the supermarket that just has SO much packaging - surely it doesn't need all that?Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Back again - each time I reply my typing is so slow that I miss a few more posts when I get back, so this is catch up again
Keren, glad you enjoyed yourself and resisted the temptation of the toastie, well done! :T
CharliesAngel - I have been and added your name to our challenger list at number 138 :j Living on under £1000! If only I could manage that!
Slowlyfading - Have you noticed an increase in the amount of plastic lying along the shore? It's such a shame because it completely spoils the landscape. Plastic, toys and FOOTWEAR! I can understand dogs losing toys in the sea or kids dropping them in by mistake, hence the profusion of plastic toys, but footwear? Why are there so many odd shoes, boots and trainers? Having spotted umpteen footballs, we decided people kick them into the sea and, as they kick, their shoe/boot/sandal/trainer must fly off and then they all just limp home with the other still in place :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I need to add this in too... I was forced to look up the MSE meaning of 'Wombling'! When I was a kid, 'wombling' was the term we used for the roadside bin-rakers. My neighbour was the best 'wombler' I ever knew! He was forever, literally, making good use of the things that he found, even building a new bike, so the term on here confused me. We used to play at 'wombling' in the hedgerows and through the woods, collecting all sorts of items and finding uses for them - it's like beach-combing without a beach! Now that I have found out, I'm a little disappointed! (But also understand why Martin hurriedly "shut up" the person who ventured near the subject on his programme!) I prefer my 'original' meaning. But I also thought of another one for all us frugalers who are trying our best to devise ways of coping with the ever-increasing plastic problem. I'm going to name us frugalbugs and call it Frugal Bugging in memory of a pop group named The Buggles! Does anyone remember them? They had a hit with a song called 'Living in the Plastic Age'! I think we still are and I think we need a few more frugalbugs to help solve the problem when local recycling isn't an option. Now, who is going to be first with a frugalbug greenhouse?I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

nykmedia, yes, i have noticed an increase over the past few years - and it is a shame as it spoils a lovely landscape. and YES, what is it about shoes?! (can one not realise that they are only wearing one shoe?!)Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
