  • Maz1964 Thank you for the recipe I shall try that out in the week, up until my experiments we used to have the Dolmio/Tesco jars which is we liked as it was all we were used to. I have a recipe from the healthy eating cooking classs I did at the nursery and have tried several from the internet.

I will try yours this week though. Thank you

MrsMcCawber: Thank you for the bread recipe, I've made it twice now and it works so well, can't believe it. Only complaint is that one loaf got eaten before it had the chance to cool down, the children loved it and they are two fussy eaters!

NYK: Thank you once again for starting such a great thread, it's really keeping me going, I've done this dort of thing before, watching the pennies on a skint week but it is so much easier when doing it with others to support you and help. Thank you.

Today I am going to try not to spend too much though i need to put £20 on my electric meter or my power will get cut off, since having the PPM installed at the end of November I've paid £100 off my debt, and it's actually nice to know that I won't be getting a massive winter bill in as I'm paying as I go now. In fact once the debt is paid I'm going to keep it on.

Good luck to you all today

Hello fizzel. I hope your day goes OK. I cannot imagine what it must be like worrying about being homeless. At least we have a secure roof over our heads even if it is a bit singed.
I go to do my Mum's washing today in the Communal washroom and, because she never has a machine full (its commercial size) I will be putting some of our stuff in as well in best MSE tradition.
DH phoned Scottish Power with our meter reading the other day and we are £10 in debit which isn't bad at the end of the last quarter. Had to use the tumble drier a lot after the fire but I am back to drying stuff round the Rayburn again. Have just ordered oil as if its ordered after the 15th of the month, don't have to pay for it until after the 15th of the following month. I haven't included oil in my budget as we would have nothing at all to live on by the time we had paid out £440 to have the tank filled.
Sitting in our lounge at the moment, the temperature is only 8C and I have frostbite! The laptop keeps my knees warm and I have a blanket round my legs. And 3 layers, pair of tights, trousers, socks and long furry slippers. Look like the Michelin man.

i have spent £50.70 so far this week. some food, activity for ds3 and a few other bits and bobs. i am going to be well within target this week as i have no direct debits going out. most of them fall next week and the last week of the month. but i do expect to be on target for january.

i have never really bothered doing a spending diary before, but decided i would do this because of the challenge. its amazing how conscious you become about where every penny is going!!!

Lollopybear....know what you mean about being sneaky. I try to make sure I use the loo in friends' houses to save me having to use my own toilet paper. And when I'm at work, I sometimes sneak a few sheets into my pocket to take home.

Been there and done there and done that one, on more than one occassion:o, especially when kids where younger and thought you need to use half a roll each and every time.

:j Hello everyone, I'm another lurker (always have problems logging in, but hope I've fixed it now). I've been reading your posts avidly, I'm too scared to join as I seem to be good at haemmoraging (sp?) money, so would like to be a member by proxy!

Since starting reading the posts, it's really made me even more conscious of how I spend, and I've managed to rack up a couple of NSDs :T . My only debt is my mortgage (£150k   on interest only with no endowment policy!!), I'm a single mum to a toddler and feel like I'm always on the edge of slipping into debt as my monthly budget apparently leaves me in the red by £50 a month (somehow I manage to scrape by!)

Loving all the soup recipes, keep 'em coming :D
