So, the postman arrived at 2pm today and scanned all 3 parcels I had for collection while I was in standing with him in our reception.

By the time he had reached his van I already had 3 e-mails stating
We've successfully completed your collection request, order number CC-Wxxx-xxxxxxxxx.

.... each with a different order number and tracking number.

Then tonight at 19:05 I get two e-mails for 2 of the 3 orders stating:

We’re sorry but we were unable to fulfil your collection request, order number CC-Wxxx-xxxxxxxxx for the following item(s): YDxxxxxxxxxxGB
If you’d like to arrange another collection, you can do so free of charge. Alternatively, you can take your item(s) to your local Royal Mail Customer Service Point or Post Office.
    We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Cutting and pasting the tracking numbers from the 2 "failed" item e-mails into the RM tracker states:

    We've got it!
Item was collected as per request on 28-11-2022

I had this with 2 packages.
Ignore the failed collection messages, it goes through as normal.

I've been using the collection service for a couple of years now without any failed collections. I thought one had been missed but they sent someone out about 5 PM for it, apparently the postie was new and missed the collection request. I've had the failed collection emails a few times but it's obviously just a glitch as the parcel was collected as normal.

The 'bring my label' option is now the default setting but if you miss the option you can still print a label. The postie will bring a label but not stick it on. There are two reasons for not using the 'bring my label' service. The price paid is on the label but you can cut it off if you print your own. If you have multiple parcels you need to be careful of mix ups, especially if the postie is in a hurry as they usually are.

The RM website now says you can give the postie extra parcels even if a collection is not booked. I asked my postie and he says its up to his/her discretion and a maximum of 5 extra parcels due to space in the van. This is handy for those early hours sales as the cut off time for booking a collection is midnight.

All in all a brilliant service, I haven't been to a Post Office in 2 years. Our local delivery office is a 30 mile round trip and they are only open 2 hours a day. Our local Post Office is shocking, bad advice given and very rude.
  • For me it means not having to ask someone else to take my parcels to post, giving some independence.  I can post things as soon as I'm up to packing them and buying postage, not relying on when someone can get to the PO.
[The 70p adds up though, when collection isn't free, so I'm not sure I'll continue when they go back to charging.]

Collection hasn't been 70p for quite a few months now. Last time they charged it was the difference between the PO and Click & drop price. I wonder if it will stay free as they (RM) are trying the cut the Post Office out of the delivery system.

Ah, yes I remember it was reduced at one point, I think I used it when it was 30p once but when it was 50p I didn't either.  I can't keep track, only that 70p is the full price.

It would be amazing for us if they kept it free or very cheap, although I would imagine collection makes a lot more work for the posties, particularly when they bring the label too.  If I didn't have anyone that could take parcels to the PO for me, even the full 70p would be a bargain!
  • Just noticed there are RM 24 and 48 DropOff options as well as collection now - same prices.
Maybe these were always there, but they are being placed at the top of the list and Ihavent notice dthem before......

I've always been dropping mine off - the only problem is I have to go via the RM site to do that as I can see no way of removing the collection option from the ebay route. On RM you can just remove it from your basket .

I'll keep an eye on my ebay options though in case it gets updated to remove the collection part.

On another site I frequent people are saying that in the run up to Christmas RM48 and RM24 is being accepted at a post office. I can't seem to find any announcement about this and I don't want to risk labelling today's parcels for RM48 and having the PO refuse them - has anyone seen anything official about this?

I'm hoping not to have to make a special journey to the Mail centre today as I'm busy and it is really out of my way.

I did spot this on the RM website:

    How to use this service

Tracked 24 and 48 can only be bought online. Buy your postage online and book a collection from your door. We can even bring your label too!

Alternatively, you can choose to print and apply your own label and drop your Tracked 24 items off at a Post Office or at a Parcel Postbox near you.

also just lower down under: Prices, terms and conditions

    How to buy and post
    1. Buy Tracked 24 and 48 online using Click and Drop and enjoy £0 parcel collection
    2. Print your postage at home, or opt for your postie to bring your label
    3. We’ll take it from here!

If you’d prefer, you can now drop your Tracked 24 and 48 items off at a Post Office or alternatively at a Parcel Postbox. You will need to print and apply your own postage label in this instance.

Yes, brilliant thank you , it definitely says Post office there - I might give it a try, but my main PO is notoriously difficult about accepting anything half the time!
