    Delivery aim in hours.
It is an aim, not guaranteed like Special Delivery, 48 for example has a target of 2-3 days.

It equates to 1st (1 day aimed for) and 2nd (2 days aimed for), although the actual estimated delivery times are slightly longer.

Regarding my previous post; Postie came today to collect and I asked about scanning the items upon collection using his PDA and he showed me his PDA and explained that the items don't show up on his PDA for collection. He said it's the Manager who sends him over to collect, they put the parcels in cages and send them to Sheffield where they get scanned.

So basically that will leave me out of my pocket if the parcel gets lost between my home and Sheffield where it's supposed to get scanned. It's very convenient to have it collected from home but not sure I want to assume the risk of this if it's not going to get scanned upon collection.

That's interesting because when I had mine collected last Saturday I received an e-mail just as his van was driving off to say that the parcel had been collected, the address it was collected from, and the tracking number.  so as far as I was concerned it was acknowledged as in their posession and so no longer my problem. This was in the North East though, so methods may differ.

That's a shame, and strange.  [Ours evidently do show up, as they get scanned and I receive an e-mail with the exact time they were collected.]

I'm not sure I'd be happy to run the risk either, in your position.

Bit weird really, there will be many postal workers in the depot and many collections booked each day, unless there's a problem with their software/PDAs and they give the postie a print out of addresses to collect from each day, what you've been told doesn't make sense.

What they are currently doing for you seems to be the same as putting it in a post box, i.e no record of receipt until it's scanned at the mail centre.

Don't blame you for not wanting to take the risk but it's certainly not how the collections should work.

    Update regarding collection issues.

In the past week, on two ocassions when I bought the collection label through eBay I did not have anyone come and collect the items. When the regular postie dropped off mail, I asked him if he was also collecting and he said there's nothing on their system or no instructions were given out to collect anything. On both ocassions it got fixed when I scanned the labels again for collection through the Royal Mail app. So there might be a fault with eBay labels going through their system? I called yesterday Royal Mail to ask about this and they said on both ocassions they had nothing in their system. But the label did come up when I rescanned it using the RMapp.

Regarding the "no scan" upon collection, I logged a complaint yesterday and the person assisting me agreed that is not the correct procedure and that all items should be scanned upon collection. She said it would take 72 hours to be handled by the Manager in charge of this region. Postie collected again today (Again, no scan) and given the previous issues with "no collection" the other day, he mentioned that my collection was on the list handed out this morning. So I assume they are given lists rather than having collections sent to their PDAs?! I hope by next week this gets sorted and they will start scanning upon collection. For now I will take expensive items to the Post Office myself and will book collections for less expensive items until this gets sorted. I'll keep you updated.

    Yes, they're misrepresenting an aspirational best-efforts service as "24" & "48".
The "aimed for" and "slightly longer" are the weasel words and there are caveats like if you take it to the PO after 3 o'clock it adds a day.

Well so far I have had:

    • 1 parcel collected from my home last saturday. The collection e-mail arrived within 1 minute (he must have scanned it in the van before driving off).
    • 1 parcel collected from my workplace on wednesday and the confirmation arrived 2 to 3 hours after collection (guessing scanning at the depot).
    • 1 parcel collected from my workplace on thursday and the confirmation arrived 2 minutes after collection (guessing scanning in the van).
    • 10 minutes ago I just had 4 parcels collected from my home again, and by the time I got back upstairs to this PC (about 2 minutes later) I had 4 separate collection confirmations in my inbox.

    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

  • Is the item tracked until delivery??
Do I need to select the signature on delivery option and pay the extra for it to be covered by eBay etc?
