Octopus Saving Sessions

I would think you can - it's not likely to be calculated in 1kWh blocks, particularly when this earns you 1800 'octopoints' or whatever they call them.MouldyOldDough said:Have received first time - 17:00 to 18:00 today£2.25 for each 1kW that we can reduce our use by during this hourThe thing is that we don't even use 1kW during the hour - so can't benefit !
Much more likely that you can earn points in smaller amounts by saving smaller amounts.1 -
The other thread running ,suggests that a fractional saving will still pay something ?MouldyOldDough said:Have received first time - 17:00 to 18:00 today£2.25 for each 1kW that we can reduce our use by during this hourThe thing is that we don't even use 1kW during the hour - so can't benefit !1 -
Well we'd normally only be able to save about one unit during that period, but it just so happens we've been forced into some atypically high usage over the last few days, so we might do a little better.Just as well we were planning on the slow cooker today anyway.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). It's 1800 'Octopoints' per kWh saved. As there are 3600 seconds in an hour it is effectively 1 point per 2s that you reduce your average demand by 1kW. Or, more tangibly, 1 point per 200 seconds that you reduce your demand by 10W. Each point is worth 0.125p. So cutting your demand by 100W for the full hour will earn you 22.5p. I think I can just about save 500Wh so roughly £1.12, depending on how they calculate the 'In Day Adjustment'.1

Got the same - if it's not raining I'll turn things off and go out for a walk.0

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -
It's in the FAQs - they compare the relevant time period to the previous 10 weekdays at the same time (if a weekday) or the previous 4 weekend periods at the same time (if a weekend) - excluding any time periods that were also saving sessions.MouldyOldDough said:They don't make it obvious
They also make an "in day adjustment", which presumably means you can't benefit when you are on holiday, for example, because although your usage will be low during the saving session it will presumably also be low for that whole day.0 -
It being split into half hour blocks doesn't change what I said. It just means that you'll get some benefit even if you only manage to save energy in one of the blocks but not the other.MouldyOldDough said:Petriix said:It's 1800 'Octopoints' per kWh saved.
