Open new account and receive account details (2-3 working days)
Carry out full CASS switch (7 working days) and claim
    Await bonus (2-3 working days)
I make that a total of 11-13 working days as the best case. Yet here we are on working day 9 of the offer with people having received their bonus. I wish I knew their secret.

    I don't think there's a secret.

The timescale isn't, really, just 9 working days so far.  As there was a previous offer that merged into this one.

The previous referral offer, which was £50, has been running for some time. So some of the reports of recent success may be from switches at the tail-end of that offer, and some of those reporting on that report that they got the £125 despite going for what was the £50 offer.

I have just received my sort code and account number by email. Do I need to wait till the switch completes on 1st December to claim my referral bonus?
If you want to wait then you can wait, just that you will get bonus later.
    Not factually correct ...

as mentioned in my previous post "some may argue".

Between me and OH we have referred to 8 people where all have followed this and all 8 plus us got bonus as well, only care about the bonuses that we received, doesnt matter for me if its "factually correct" or not.
How do you know/ what makes you think that if someone submits referral claim form after switch completes in your words?

"If you want to wait then you can wait, just that you will get bonus late"

or in my words that bonus get paid out in any different timescale whether submit form early or in line with instruction on referral claim form.

How do you know that I dont know their switching date and when they are "actually" submitting the form?  People we have referred have been good by giving me all updates and that explans why we are getting bonus just after couple of days post switching.  It would be interesting to see if someone is submitting the form after switching date and when they are getting the bonus, it wont be on 2nd working days for sure.

It was for me when I switched under the previous offer.

SMS dated 20/10/21: "Your verification code is ***** for GBP £50.00 to *****"

Yes, 19/10/21 was a Tuesday. Submitted the form once FP with closing balance had been received into Co-op account. Received payment the following day (Wednesday).

Annoyingly, they do not want me as a customer.
I have had a Co-op current account in the past but closed it to switch to a different bank for an incentive. I did not ask for an overdraft so I am a bit confused by their email. I don't think I have ever been rejected when applying for any of my multiple bank accounts. I have done a few recently.

Here is part of the email they sent me.

Thank you for your recent application for a Current Account. Regrettably, after careful consideration we are unable to open the account you requested.

We considered the information supplied with your application, including your current income and expenditure, and information provided by one or more credit reference agencies. This doesn't mean that you've got a bad credit rating, however, we are concerned that further lending may overcommit you financially.

Same here except the robot email stated something on Equifax was a problem. Checked nothing there and score of 920 out of 1000. Made a complaint online.

‘Further lending’ huh it’s a current account. In my case didn’t even ask for an overdraft.

Overly cautious  deeply ‘ethical’ American hedge fund managers. They can stick their current account.

Also gave me a Switch date of 6th December as the soonest they could do it?

I used to have about five Co op current accounts, all now closed or switched. That couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the rejection could it?! They tell me no, “we are not like that”.

I'd suggest you're on a hiding to nothing. Even if you don't have an arranged overdraft you can still end up overdrawn. A current account is a credit product.

Your Equifax score is meaningless. Just because Equifax reckon you're a decent risk does not mean any lender looking at the same data set would agree.

You win some, you lose some and you have to roll with the punches.
  • Can anyone that has applied recently and the account is opened, did you get a switch letter in the post confirming the switch?

Only reason I'm asking is that my brother-in-law applied in August and the switch was never completed. He finally had a letter from Co-op after 8 weeks of investigation stating he had not completed the switch section, but knows he had as you need to validate the switch account details for it to provide the earliest switch date which he was given the 05/09/22 and accepted.
Letter received by post from Co-operative bank today dated 4th November confirming switch details and dates switch will start and complete.

Really! both me and OH previous CoOp account holders at current address.
Applied on the 6th, confirmed on the 7th. received a letter today asking for ID. both of us need to provide proof of ID, not address.
no online method to do this, and needs to be certified. copied and certified? how on earth?
1st time ever ID required and iv'e got just about every account you could speak of.

    anyone else?

just got to work out who to certify. does anyone have experience of whether they contact said person? our neighbor is a retired teacher, not "currently working".
