To add to my previous post about benefits. Don't know if you saw last night Martin Lewis program. The extra you can claim be transferring part of OH's tax allowance, can be back dated for four years. If you apply by beginning of April you would get around £1200, straight away. Not to be sniffed at. The form is online, it is very simple to fill in. I managed it in five minutes, and I'm a sixty plus year old technophobe. Ask him to make it this evening's job.

Did you have a survey on your present house? Are you sure nothing else will turn up on a survey for new buyers? How do you know you need a new roof, just because others on the road have, doesn't mean you need one. We were told we needed a new roof, within the next two or three years, when we moved here, by our surveyor, (who is a relative, so believable). Over ten years later it's still fine. Hope this helps.

Fox posted previously about applying for the tax allowance, so it should be coming shortly if not already received.

I hope Mr Fox is reading this. It might wake him up to reality instead of being in his nice cosy bubble.  I doubt it though. Why would he change when he has everything he needs?

Why is he happy to be included on the tax allowance claim but not UC?  Is there a chance he is secretly claiming unemployment and spending this on himself?

Eventually there are plans for a non-earning partner to be required to look for work (set out in the 2023 Budget I believe, but wouldn’t come in in this parliament) where currently UC would leave said partner alone if the earner was earning above a certain level. I’m not sure on what this limit is but from earlier posts in the thread, I take it that Fox is above.

Given that we’re likely to have a change of government and they usually oppose the entire budget, I wouldn’t be convinced not to claim over something that may never happen.

Last time you moved to current house you stated it was your dream house in dream location so why would you want to move from that? 🤷‍♀️
Seriously re read your older posts; they were only from last year and selling didn’t improve things
You haven’t changed your spending habits
If husband has mentioned about living more frugally why not have the conversation about ref budget, cutbacks and UC claim the night when you get home? You should not be worrying about how to word this! You both need to work together to resolve your situation and make cutbacks/ bring in more money

I agree - though we now know why selling didn't improve things (the scumbag buyer  dropping his offer at the 11th hour, by an amount that would have wiped out almost all of the remaining debt, and more work being needed than envisaged.) The equity doesn't seem to have been frittered particularly, other than choosing the wrong type of car.

Things would need to fall perfectly for you to move and come out debt free and that isn't going to happen. While we can understand why you didn't back out last time, given the desperate situation you were in, living in the sticks with zero running vehicles and needing to get to work otherwise nobody would eat, you cannot afford to lose more money to a risky buying and selling process. You put your dream kitchen into this house, over budget by the looks of things. Every time you look at the kitchen in yet another house, you are going to want what you had. The magic wand would be if you could pack that kitchen into a box and take it with you to avoid losing the money, but it doesn't exist.
  • Can I ask what happened to selling the car?  As your DH is now living frugally he does not need two cars on the driveway.  Get it sold and pay off some of your debts and treat your DD to some new clothes.
Once you have cleared some debts please sit back and reassess selling your home.
Is DH worried that if you claim benefits the CSA (if that is what they are called now) will come after him for past unpaid child maintenance?

The car and van are both up for sale on FB Marketplace. I am having an ongoing issue with Motorway whereby they won't accept the proof that I bought the car, and keep saying I bought it less than six months ago. Its 6 and a half months ago I bought it, but I think swapping the numberplates has confused the issue. I have had one person interested in the van but I don't think they can afford it. And zero bites on the car, although I lowered the price to 11k from £2,500. WBAC are offering 9k, but I don't want to lose that much on it.

I'd be inclined to try Autotrader. FB Marketplace really doesn't seem like the place to be buying and selling vehicles.
