Is there anything your mum would do that could help avoid issues if she has another access problem or has to go into hospital?  That was a lot of money you ended up paying out before it was resolved.  Could she perhaps move some things to standing order, or give POA to someone outside the family?

Throwback moments can be really weird can't they.  I do think it's one of the things that makes social media not always helpful.

Have you considered doing a POA yourself.  I did mine 7 years ago.  It, along with my will & other things, sits in a box labelled what to do when I can't, so I still have it not whoever is going to be the attorney.  When I did mine I just filled it all in online & printed it out (it is a lot of pages) then things need signing & witnessing.  But I wondered if showing her after the printing stage might help her see, along with explaining that SHE holds it, that it is up to her & her alone if it gets used.
