    I have been thinking something similar - it must be so unhelpful to have the smug older generations saying 'gosh you can't have what we so easily got, how awful your lives will be' instead of 'well things are different now, we need to find ways of making it work for you'.

    Actually I think it is more the papers telling them, rather than older people.  Most of much older people didn't even get a sniff at university & the bulk left school at 15.  It was only much later that 50% got to go to uni & had to start paying.  Most of the people I knew left at 15 & I did first year 6th form before leaving & finishing A levels at evening classes.  Which seems an impossibility these days.

    I wasn't necessarily thinking of uni, more of house prices and pensions.  We are very slow in changing renter protections even when house prices have shot out of reach of most in almost all of the country.
